Hey phatjoe412,

I don't know if you posted in the wrong place as you addressed Albert but...

Rayfoss seem to have a good name. In the post directly below this one, (as of 23:49 GMT 10th April 10), are comments on a 200mW Rayfoss.

Check out the, 'Reviews', section or use the search button to search for the specific model.

Hope that helps,

M

Hello and welcome to the forums.

I don't know why are you so obsessed about being me the one answering you, nor do I know you, but anyway... :)

Getting your first laser is always tricky. However, it's not a good idea to directly buy a 200mW green laser as your first one. Lasers are dangerous, and a newbie with a so powerful laser is not a good idea.

I recommend you to first buy the true green laser pointer pen 50mW from dealextreme.com as it just costs 20$. If you're in USA I'd recommend you to buy the 50mW laser pen from ledshope.com since dealextreme won't ship to USA. It costs 25$ there. Both are good quality (not excellent, but more than enough for your first laser) and will last you very long if you threat them well.

BUT, if you're really sure that you want to start with a beast... then you need to jump into a more quality store like rayfoss or o-like. I personally recommend you the unit I own, the FLX-532. You can find a review of it on my signature. It costs 150$, so make sure you know what you're doing. Personally, I'd start with the 20$ pen.

Yours,
Albert

I really don't know about that model. The only model I've ordered from rayfoss is the one in my review. They have the same laser in different powers, I'd buy the 100mW version then. The shutter and focusing ring works great and it has a very nice look. Also, the power is steady as a rock!

Hey, I'm new to this forum, but I have a question. I've always wanted a powerful green laser, and I got my chance this week. I'm in China for a holiday/meet relatives and went to a market. There, I saw the laser I later found out was the DX 50mW laser pen. On the label it says max output power <50mW. I bought it for only about 9 dollars AU. I don't know if it is a true 50mW or not. How can I tell the difference if it is a "true" 50mW or "untrue"? Is there a visual difference? I don't have a power meter, so I don't know the actual mW. I can see the beam very clearly at night, and ok in a dimly lit room. It depends whats in the background. I can *just* make out the beam in a brightly lit room. Hopefully when I get back to Australia I can test if it can pop a balloon- that's what I'm hoping it can do. Thanks.

Welcome. I'll treat this as a new thread.
I've always thought that 'true' meant that it's 'on-spec'.
There may be a visual difference but you have nothing to compare it to.
Since you can see the beam it in a dimly lit room, i think it's safe to say it has some power.
You will need a laser power meter to be sure. The closer it is to 50mW's, the better deal you got in China.
LPM's can be had here: http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/fs-new-hlpm-ii-200mw-lpm-module-54-99-shipped-46575.html
Enjoy your stay ,)

Thanks! But I don't think I will be getting a LPM anytime though...
