Hey folks,

I was on way to work when I saw the Green Laser beam pulsing over the street and I managed to capture it whit my camera...
A few days before sighting the beam, I heard about the new programmable EVO from wickedlasers and I thought hey it seems to be that laser...

What would you say? Do you think, that I'm right? :)
Please share your vision on that question and would be great if someone knows who fired the laser beam... :undecided:

I don't the EVO is high power enough to produce a beam that bright. That looks like multiple watts from an actual projector, IMO.

Yeah, that's a projector it looks like. No way a handheld could make that kind of a beam.

Yes, that does look very very bright. Usually it's hard to catch the beam on camera in my experience. Also it's a very solid clear beam even with all the street lights and such.

Looks to be about ten Watts. Definitely an actual projector. Evo is 200mW maximum, as far as I know.

* EDIT: I was wrong about Evo's wattage. Sorry! XP Actually 75mW and 100mW both for separate version of Evo.

Alright the beam looks really bright, but I can tell you, that it was almost towards me and a laser is visible at any power when is pointet towerds your eyes...
When I turned back, then the laser beam was almost invisible and my camera couldn't catch it too... And observing the beam not exactly below it's path, but few meters away after I crossed the street looked really faded out...
That's why I assumed it might be arround true 100mw Green Laser... :)

Anyway I haven't seen too often high power laser except mine 5mW green laser pointer, that's why I decided to ask some more experienced people :D

Edit: I was wrong :) It was still bright after I walked away from the beam's path... Yeah definitely at least 1W :)

Actually, that depends on how foggy the sky is, and I do own a laser about that wattage - the diffused reflection from the 520nm Emerald Green In : GaN laser is stupid bright to look at but laser beam is somewhat dim from sideway (even more visible than 5mW ones) so I doubt it would be that power rating for good reasons. Yet, I suspect from the brightness of laser beam sideway from afar, I would say 7 - 10 Watts from green DPSS.

 A 10W green laser so close to the street??.If a random bird, animal, or something passes in front of the beam, what will happen? :wtf:

Still, that's crazy lettin' all the green photons out! o_O

(That reminds me of an episode of Dilbert show - Dilbert tried putting in extremely powerful light bulb into the lamp fixture, and clipped a plane's wing with the laser beam.)

I really wanted to find the source believe me :)
But I was already enough late for my work... :yabbem:

And I decided to post it here because I thought, that is possible a member of LPF could have did this :)

Is it legal in Germany to shine such powerful beams into the sky? What about airplanes? There was a lot of buzz around here in Belgium when an idiot shone onto an F16 jet with a handheld green, couple of weeks ago.

EDIT
It looks like it is coming from the building carrying the Hertz car rental logo on it -can't find such tall building on google earth (2008 imagery)

^^ The beam I saw was more or less parallel to and probably 30 - 50 m from the ground. IIRC I think it terminated on a building at the other end of the city?:beer:

Why would someone even do that?

I mean Berlin being as big a city as it is, if a plane goes in front of it then boom!(Not very likely as they will avoid the beam).

But *sigh*

^^ Hmm not many planes flying at 50 - 100 m altitude over cities, and especially larger cities with tall buildings, like Berlin...:tinfoil:

Edit: Ive changed the height to 30 - 50 m. It was very difficult to tell the height with the sky as a backdrop, but the beam passed between some of the taller buildings.
