Default First Time Buyer: DX 30 mW Lasers

I've been interested in buying a green laser for a few years now, but only recently have I heard of DX's decent/mediocre cheap lasers. *After reading threads here and on the DX product pages, it seems like the consensus used to be that their True 30 mW laser is their best product for under $30, but more recent threads suggest that the quality of these have gone down recently (not NewWish diode anymore, lack of IR filter, etc). *Other lasers like the 30mW Romisen L-B030 seem to be getting good / improving reviews.

Since you guys have experience with the actual products, I'm asking for advice regarding the following questions:
 • Are their True 30 mW lasers still up to spec and decent quality? (NewWish, cheap IR filter, 30 mW output)?
 • Is it worth it to buy the L-B030 or another Romisen laser instead?
 • What is the typical lifespan of these relatively cheap lasers?

Thanks in advance guys.

I've just bought a True 30mW and I noticed nowhere says that it's a NewWish. I had seen some pics that "newwish" came all over the product but neither the pointer nor manual of mine says anything. I think it was supposed to have 'newwish' written in the metalic part but it's written (Star)Laser Pointer(Star).

I'm not experienced at lasers but the laser seems fine, it's really bright at night and I haven't had any problems so far.

Just this "seems to be a not-newwish thing" annoys me.

Am I right or newwish lasers come like that now?

The best 30mW greens on DX now are the Romisens, I own three, one that I killed pot modding ( nothing to do with the laser, was my fault ) one that I've had for ages and another one. I own an L-C030 and an L-A030, my favorite is the L-C030.

If you're going to get one of the DX 30mW greens go for the Romisen range.

Ok, it looks like I'm going to stick with a Romisen in this case, thanks for the advice.

I have not seen the L-C030 on DX, although it looks like everything else is there. *I mentioned the L-B030 since it looks like the most solid out of the bunch that they have. *People say that these Romisens also have O-Rings for a degree of waterproofing, can you guys confirm?

Also, should the IR emitted be a big concern for me, and is there a filter I could install in front of the lens in the housing of the pointers?

EDIT: It looks like the L-030 is the C030, am I correct?

Only one of the Romisens is waterproof ( L-B030 ? )

No need to worry about IR from these pointers, lower powered pointers don't emit much IR at all, it's only the higher powered ones you need to worry about 70+mW
In which case the green output is still more dangerous.

L-030 and L-C030 are the same thing lol :P

I've got a Romisen L-DO30 and its got better divergence than my CNI 150 ;D

It is a very nice laser, sturdy and well built with a massive heatsink too

Ah shit, with respect to DX shipping to the US, if I checked "not in the US", and then gave them a US shipping address anyways, would they still ship it to me?

Damn, should I try my luck with Kaidomain? I mean otherwise, is there any other place I could get this laser without having to go through a group buy?

I have one of these
http://www.plans-kits.com/lasers.html
It's a New Wish. I think the one I got is over-spec at 30 mW. I've had it for years, it's great. Kinda expensive for it's power I guess, but a good one none the less. *

Thanks guys, I bought from ledshoppe.com ($19.99 for a 30mW DX pen-style - $2.00 coupon + $2.00 optional shipment tracking). *The reason I even came across this forum was from a FatWallet.com deal regarding their 50mW pointer, but after reviewing the safety forum, I've come to the conclusion that 30mW should be more than enough for what I need (pointing and nighttime beam visibility), but still safe enough to handle without goggles. Regardless, thanks for all the advice guys.

Might do a review of this unit if I can get ahold of the laser testing equipment at either my university or at my brother's.
