Default Finally have a 1w greenie.

I received my diodes that I won on ebay from Techhood today after only 2 1/2 weeks, not bad and I just had to see the NDG7475 emit some photons.

It came with clean virgin pins, sorry I was too excited to get a pic before I had them soldered and heat shrink wrapped.

I am going to run this at 1.8a and on the bench it looks amazing.

I put a smaller Osram 520 in the beautiful heat sink from Lifetime17 so I will use this host I slapped togethe, this way I can easily run 2 x 18350's or by adding an extension I already have I can use 2 x 18650 or 2 x 26650's.

Just wanted to get out a quick report and a couple of pics.

That's great that those diodes showed up and you wasted no time putting it into a heat sink and get a beam shot. I need to get a NDG7475 one day soon. I would love to get it on an auction like you did. Love those greens! + Rep.

glad they finally came, those are the ones you were able to get uber cheap and we were wondering if they were really the 1 watt rated diodes, correct? if so, they should do 1.3 or higher output.

The smaller host is a skyray I bought from Rich ( Lifetime17 ) he made the pretty heat sink with the copper insert, he also made an adjuster but I like seeing the copper insert, it holds a 100mw osram 520, the larger MX-900 I have literally dozens of and I can build in minutes, they are ultra simple with ample room to work, it holds the NDG7475 running an 1.8a X-drive.

I had to go out and eat some dinner, just got back and put it together, it was in my mailbox today at 6pm, the MX-900 is a very easy build.

BTW: The osram has a 3 element 520 lens and the MX-900 has a 2 element 520 lens, I'm not sure what difference it makes, I may swap them and see although I typically don't replace a lens unless it's burnt or too dirty to clean if I can help it, the less we expose our diodes window the better.

@ Paul: Sorry I don't have a power reading, I still don't have a LPM, I fully intend to PBS cube 2 x NUBM44-81's or what ever comes next, I want to be able to read double digit wattage, hopefully triple digit wattage before all that long.

I like pretty beams, DPSS are the best to look at and I can enjoy 100mw as much as 1000mw as for pointing, it's subjective, if you pick up a 5mw it is cool and fun, but pick up 100mw and the 5mw looks weak, but pick up the 5mw later and it's fun again.

I am a burner at heart, power matters the most to me when it can do useful work, or entertaining work, I'm saving my pennies to go bigger, the auction I won was 124.00 for all 3 diodes shipped so how could I not be happy with that, if the 7475 puts out 875mw or 1105mw at 1.8a it really doesn't make a big difference to me, but it is very cool and I should get the 150 dollar LPM, I can easily afford it, I just haven't done it as I'm torn between visible and non visible power for my wood burning art and want to invest in the most useful LPM and lets face it, I'm a cheapskate but I want good tools, so I choose them wisely, which is often slowly.

Finally some hardcore green, you must be very pleased, I also just recieved one yesterday, I thought the NDG700 at 1w was bright, Let’s see this buity hopefully 1.4w

They look brand new Red such pretty diodes!

I forgot that you don't have an LPM yet. You can always send it me and I'll measure it for you. I've done it for members here many times.

Default Re: Finally have a 1w greenie.

I don't think that 1w and 1.4w would be all that different looking to the eye.

Typically I am told and have observed the same, that it takes twice the optical output in order to appear half again as bright.

So a 4000mw 520nm would look 1 3/4 to 2X as bright as a 1000mw 520nw.

And a 2000mw 520nm would appear half again as bright as a 1000mw 520nm.

This is where a lpm matters when we used to pay a dollar a mw for DPSS 532nm lasers and a 75mw looked like a good 50mw or an ok 200mw.

But to look at 1w vs 1.4w I doubt the difference couldn't be hidden in the angle of observation, any laser will look the brightest coming at you, 2nd brightest going away, from the side ( perpendicular ) a beam disappears quickly with any distance.

That's why I crossed my beams from the middle vantage point, to show an as accurate as possible comparison.

A simple straight on vs 15 degrees less than straight on could make a 1w look brighter than a 1.4w if I'm not mistaken.

Yes I realise this I was just saying can’t wait to see it in action, and to LPM it. You obviously couldn’t wait!

Try telling that to someone that wants a NDG7475 and not a NDG700!

Default Re: Finally have a 1w greenie.

It's all good Billy.

Lets see, a 3-element passes 70% and a G2 passes 95% and a G7 passes 88%.

So lets say you have the 7475 with a G2 at 2.4 amps making 1.4watts, now swap in a 3 element green AR coated lens and you lose 30% so your 1.4w 7475 run at 2.4a with a G2 is really 980mw with a 3-element.

Of course the 700 and 7475 have stage 1 MM divergence just like the 140/7875 so they may not clip as much as diodes like the nubm44 or nubm08 that are what I call stage 3 or make a line roughly 3 times as long at a given distance.

What numbers is anyone getting with a 2, or 3 element ar coated for 520 lens on the........ oh hell, you know what....

Seriously, you know what........ it's pretty, it's very bright, I like it a lot.....that's good enough.

----EDIT----

You know, the more I play with this the more I am getting re-addicted to bright green beams, maybe a 2 diode combined divergence corrected beam would be worth doing just to look at, it's pretty darn sparkly, just correcting one could look really amazing.

Headed for the G2 lens collection
