Do not look down the hole for any reason. Point it close to a white piece of paper and turn it on, and see if you see a faint red glow on the paper.

This may seem like a silly question, but...

Have you tried changing the batteries?

From your description, the only thing that died are the batteries (or battery).

yes ive changed the batteries to fresh and old ones still didnt help :/

Unscrew the front part and put it in your pocket for a few minutes. If you're near a cold climate they might need to warm up. My Green lasers do this every winter. Let your body heat warm up the crystals so they shift and try to turn it on.

He's from Australia... it's summer here at the moment :D

I agree with TJ, try turn it on in front of a white piece of paper. Alternatively I can have a look at it for you if you rather.

It is very strange idea of having a X-mas in the summer. :san:

Do the laser rattle if you shake it ? Could be loose crystals rolling around.

You can also use most digital cameras to detect if there is any IR (invisible) light coming out of the aperture.
