Did I break my laser?

I ordered a 30mw green laser module from dx. I got it yesterday and hooked up to a battery pack to test it out (4 AAA's). It worked fine the first time I pressed the button and was about what I expected for a 30mw. After letting go of the button and pressing it again the laser is now very weak (the dot is only visable a few feet away and is very very tiny). It has been like that ever since. So what happend? Is there a way to fix this? If it is busted what part exactly is it..the driver or the diode? Please help. If there is any other information you need to solve this please let me know.

Also where can I find another 30-50mw laser that wont take a month to ship?

You have toasted the green module. 4x AAA deliver 6 Volt and that is too much for the 3V rated module. Didn't you read the specs on the DX site ?

Well I have hooked 6V to other laser modules (5mw cheap ones) and it worked fine. So what do you mean the module is toasted? All of it or just the diode? Just the driver?

Also why does it still kinda work with a very small dim green dot? I mainly just want to learn what I can to prevent this from happening again.

Normally these green module works on 3V. Anything above is a hit and miss.
I can't say what is wrong, the diode or the driver.
