My friend recently bought the true 30mW, and his is dimming like hell. I know there was an earlier topic on this, but how how many people are still experiencing this problem? He is trying to get a response from the DX staff and I will post it here if he gets one. I was going to buy one too, but I don't know after reading everyone's posts about the dimming.

In my case dimming coused by battery sag, using fresh alkaline made the output stay bright for quite some time before eventually dim(sag) and when rechargeable lithium(3.0v) is used i can hold it bright as long as 25 seconds without dimming. I am sure 30-40 seconds is possible with RCR123 but the heat will always be in the way.

I am sure everyone will have different problem with their DX true 30mW l but i am sure in my case this is the problem. Battery sag first then the heat afterwards

It depends really, i have one that runs fine from NiMH's, despite their low voltage to begin with. Even pops sharpied balloons like that. It takes 10-20 seconds for it to get to full power, but i've had it on for a few minutes with no apparent dimming.

Then again, i have a DX20 that dims after a second or two, even from a rock solid lab power supply... and only works well for some at over 3 volts. Even on fresh alkalines it's only bright for a few seconds, and keeps shooting a burst like that every time you press the button - i think it must be some electrical malfunction.

the quality on this particular laser is not stable you might get either good or bad and somewhere in between.

Thanks for the info guys. I just ordered one, so I hope I get lucky. So if some people replace the batteries with fresh or new ones, it can hold the beam for a while. And for some other people, it will dim really fast no matter what. And the rest of the people don't have a problem with dimming at all. After it starts dimming, is it really dim, or just a little bit?
