I've had the 50mW module from o-like for a few months already and just completed putting it into the MXDL flashlight, sku.1442 only yesterday. (pic 1) I chose that model because it used 3xAAA batteries which I have rechargables lying around. I was surprised that little modification is really needed! The o-like module can be pushed safely to 3.6V, so with 3xAAA rechargable NiMH, it's just right.

The heatsink is made out of aluminium (pic 2), and I added 3 small squares of tape on to the o-like module to enable me to press it into the heatsink and make it stay there. Also, the switch need not be bypassed with a wire. Next to the o-like module spring is a negative connection and a positive connection. (pic 3) If one uses these two connections, the laser turns on immediately. The brass part of the module is also positive. So all I did was to add a drop of solder between the negative connection to the spring to connect them.

After press fitting, I removed the o-ring from this metal piece which held the LED originally (pic 4), and screwed deeper in (pic 5), turned the battery holder around (pic 6), and screwed on everything together!

Very nice. That heatsink looks nice and sturdy with plenty of mass for a decent duty cycle. Did you machine it yourself?

Nope. Sent it to a shop for machining. I believe at 50mW, I may be able to go practically forever on. I wonder.

nice build...very clean. Just an opinion thought, I know the time and funds taken to finish this unit and clearly it is grand.

This is just a suggestion though this unit could have( if you chosen) been better used for the newer 8x 405nm diode. that massive heatsink and the MXDL would have been a great match.

For the green you could of ordered that mod and for $16.00 for a solid chunk and great reverse clicky from this link : Rayfoss

again this is a nice clean build and +rep for it... this is just my opinion:beer:
