I was wondering if i should remove the battery (cr123a) from my laser after every use to prolong the life of the diode.

I see no reason for removing the battery unless your not going to be using it for a couple of months, I leave the battery in all my lasers as they get turned on weekly.

There's really no need. That's what the off switch is for ;)

Customer support at WL told me that an "oxide layer" can be formed on the battery contacts if the laser is stored with the battery for long periods of time. Is this true? If so, how do you remove that layer?

just scrape it off, or sand it off. Could use fine sand paper, or a light file.

Yeah, all that happens is that the surfaces don't conduct as well so you don't get the right voltage going to the laser, or any voltage at all. easily fixed.

Is it visible?  I have a dead WL and I don't see any gunk on the contacts.  Maybe I'll try sanding it a bit just to be sure...

- Nope, still dead... oh well... my Alpha 65 is coming soon...
