I apologize for making a repost.. (i tried searching but got impatient) Maybe this is a good topic for a sticky.

Reading about all these lasers burning things and lighting matches makes me want one. BAD!

I'm not ready to build one just yet but want to know what mw I should get and what store do you recommend.

Well. If you are looking for an extremely impressive beam with a decent amount of burning power, you should get a 100mW green:
100mW transformable green laser/adjustable [OLV6100] - $81.99 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products
or
www.rayfoss.com
This second one is good. It has FDA safety features (keylock/aperture), and the first one is more pocket-sized. Both, however, will have ~25mW of IR (Infrared laser light) so you will need multi-wavelength safety glasses for up-close burning.

Unless you ask Faona [Rayfoss email contact] to have an IR filter installed for free.
I'm not sure if Susie [o-like email contact] can install an IR filter in the OLV6100.

How much do you want to spend?

If you want some massive burning power, I'd suggest this. It's not all that cheap at $100, but it will burn much better than the red.

200mW blu-ray torch/adjustable/focusable [OL-405-200-T] - $105.99 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products

Be sure to get the appropriate goggles for 405nm.

405nm,473nm,532nm laser safety goggles [OLGLG532] - $19.99 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products

good question.. i think to start maybe around a $100.

goninanbl00d has the best option IMO. Blu-Rays burn better than most other lasers mW for mW. It will also burn a larger variety of items because of the shorter wavelength.

Please spend the extra to get goggles. These lasers will blind you faster than you can blink. I have a blind spot in my right eye to prove it.

$125 is not too much over budget.

Please, no matter what you do, get a pair of goggles.

$20's not a lot to protect your one and only set of eyeballs.
