Hey guys, i've just ordered myself a 95mw dragon and i was wondering what batteries i should use in it, would AAA 1.5V alkaline "Energizer" batteries be ok? i live in the UK so if you could reccomend batteries that are available in the UK that'd great! i dont want to break my laser by fitting it with the wrong batteries :-[

they will work fine but you might also consider the duracel rechargible 1000 mah or the lithium e2.

Your 95mw dragon will work great with alkalines and will thrive on lithiums too. The best deal on lithium i've found is in Tescos £6.97 for a pack of 4.
Welcome to the forum too. ;)

another question regarding my 95mw dragon laser what is a "duty cycle" does it mean you have to leave it on for that certain amount of time and then turn it off for that certain of time or is it just a guide just incase you do leave it on for that amount of time?
confusing yes

i sure will post some piccys of the laser when i get it going.....im just a bit paranoid at the moment that it may let me down and i might recieve an "underpowered" laser. fingers crossed it wont happen

Duty cycle is the reccomended times for operation of your laser - if you have a 60/10 duty cycle - it means, 60 seconds on, 10 seconds off. This is to aid in the cooling off of the diode, and crystals - so they do not overheat, and potentially burn out ! Now - if you are running it, and any time you feel an excess of heat buiding up, shut it off !!!! You'll save it that way. Also - lasers "lase" more effectively at a certain temperature, os it is reccomended that you don't exceed that temp.

Spot on the duty cycle means just what you thought. Dragon say that your laser will be able to be switched on for 100secs and 10secs off to cool it down.
So stick to that if your doing any experiments then a clock or a stopwatch comes in handy. If you count 100secs from after reading this post you'll see it's quite a long time. ;)

They are GREAT optical quality ! My only beef is with the ones designed to help with red - they block EVERYTHING. Nothing gets in whatsoever. I will have to setup any experiments the "proper" way - with a 5mw red pointer - for aiming, then use the higher power with the goggles.

i think duracels work fine, but they run out fast, so you need new ones all the time. rechargables are good for this.
