Any news about the 510 nm diodes?

Hey guys,

I've read somewhere on the forums that such a diode already exists. Where is it at in the production process right now? Can one purchase a laser with this diode installed? If yes, then please let me know where I can get myself one.

Thanks!

May as well reiterate here -

Since that initial thread, I have not been able to source any more of those diodes. I have been trying, constantly, since the week that thread was posted.

To save everyone a lot of hassle and unnecessary annoying of various sources, I'll also comment that if you spend an evening googling, you'll find four or five sources selling the diodes. I've obtained pricing from everyone that is selling them right now, and $1200 is the best price that is actually available.

The minute more of these are available from somewhere, at an affordable price, I have no doubt that the news will be all over the forum.

I received a quote of $250/diode, but entirely unavailable, and this was a few months back. I doubt we'll see these diodes anytime soon.

Yep.

Unfortunately, price quotes are not very useful unless they're for goods that can actually be purchased. I'll offer to sell you them for $50. Unfortunately, I don't have any to sell you ;)

I've seen a number of quotes tossed around, but in terms of suppliers that actually have them, available to ship, it has been $1k+ since I've been inquiring.

I received a quote from an Australian source with ready to ship diodes.

$500 a piece 50 piece minimum.

They still haven't gotten back to me on a price for 1/10pcs

I never checked myself but on photon forums they said laser66.com or whatever had them for $250 a pop at one point in time... I haven't been to pf in a while though so I'm not sure if that's even worth a try.

Yeah, Laser66 is where the quote I got was from. They would have loved to sell me one but they only had two in stock and both were claimed and they said they did not have plans for another shipment at this time.

Wow, i guess this is still far from available and in no way affordable yet. In that case, I will just have to wait until they start appearing in these forums at a relatively low cost and in abundance. Till then, I will just have to dream on...

It wasn't too long ago that a non Argon/HeCd/DPSS blue laser was a dream, look what we have now. Heck, I remember when 473nm was as expensive as a house and a 6mW HeNe was considered super bright.

You're right, who would have ever imagined we would have blue laser diodes capable of reaching 2W+ outputs in a portable factor at 50 bucks a diode?!

I have no doubts these will start popping out of nowhere on these forums and will eventually drop in prices with quantities being less scarce. It will take some time though from the looks of things.

My first 532nm pointer was rated at 5mW (actually was about 2), and cost me about $350 (MANY years ago)! I floored many people though because no one has seen a green beam before, well, outside of a movie, that is! I still have that pointer and it's still going strong! I'm still waiting for a 2W laser pointer with a wavelength adjustment knob on the back. Dial up any color beam that you want! For $50! :)

He said the same exact thing to me too...

I haven't heard from him in a while though.
