Got a YL laser 303 not long ago and it worked very well until the battery died. Got new batteries, and a charger, but for some reason, now the thing just barely works. Like the battery is almost completely dead. Even when fully charged. Super weak green beam, and failing that, an even weaker red light. Can I fix this, or should I just count my losses and move on..?

OOHHH NOOO

That 'dim red' you see is likely IR and bad for eyes ( no matter how 'dim')- cheap greens have no IR filter- the IR is the pump ...search DPSS- BUT first please go now to the 'welcome' section and intro yourself to the forum -we consider that to be good manners just like adding at least your general location into your profile page.... how we reply depends a lot of your location and we prolly have a few members not too far away and they can give in-person help and many own LPMs so you can get your lasers metered for free..

I feel you at not really quite ready for lasers by your questions

you need to searc these terms :

duty cycle
ESD
Polarity
proper safety glasses
buying from Wicked Lasers
etc

and that is only a small portion-

before you ask for more help open each section and read the top threads- most important are the ones in the WELCOME section followed by any activities you are interested in- do NOT ask questiosn w/o a search first as we are TOO busy helping with questions NOT found in the search-- no offence intended.

more help about fundlmentials can be found at Sam's Laser FAQ and google.

I have a +6 rep bump for you after you finish.

add a link or pics of/to that laser too-- you would have done better starting out here BEFORE buying..

IF you tried fresh batts both ways--

no do!! no do!!

'Polarity' should NEVER be found by guessing or trying both ways- you prolly killed that laser-NOT following the correct duty/rest cycle is a killer too.

@arioch

Fixing a DPSS 532 laser, while the easiest of DPSS wavelengths to create is difficult if you have never taken apart a laser, or built one for that matter. 532 uses several crystals and they are aligned in a way to transfer IR light into the green light you see.

Unless this is an expensive laser, trying to fix a 532 DPSS laser is more costly then buying a new one.

I think that before you look into getting
another laser you should stop looking into
the one you already have.

you

BUT I am betting a dollar to a dime that many times- especiallly with kids- the first thing they do when a flashlight is getting dim or nor working it to aim it into your eyes and click it off and on and off and on- I have handed some of mine over to adult firends
( with pin out -or key off etc- the way I ALWAYS do that)

and after pressing the button a few times I see them aim it into thier faces while asking me 'whats wrong?'while still hitting the button
-- where do I start??
:(
So its basic human nature to do that with a laser, :shhh:
if you dont know any better- we have seen that here a LOT- many times its a DPSS laser that now only emits 'weak' reddish and apparently harmless beam when, if fact, it i9s 'IR'-& never easy to see and is extremely harmful too our eyes. so yeah as L.S. sez- STOP looking 'into' that laser- its history and a lesson learned i hope.

well DANG!!
it now looks like I ran this member off- NOT MY INTENTION
however if it only took *that* for this member to leave-- he would have left in time anyway-

since his last post- he has not logged in at all-

so color him gone-- :cryyy:

MY personal rule= no location or proof of age- no lasers--

even if its - 'USA and over 18' Im cool with that=
BUT we should NEVER tolerate any liars..

I think this member is in Canada
where the term 'hoser' was (IIRC) 'coined' A 'hoser' is a gasoline or other fuel thief-- due to the use of a hose to steal the fuel.
