I ordered a 500mw laser. It came in today, and i wasnt very impressed with the power. It looks decent in the night sky, but i cant get the beam to show in a dark room. Infact, it wont burn anything, i cant even feel it on my skin. Im hoping the ultrafire battery is the cause of the underpowered laser. Here are images of the laser: imgur: the simple image sharer

Here is where i purchased it from: 500MW Beam Green Laser Pointer (1 x 4000mAh) Red at Laserpointerpro.com

Im thinking of buying a pair of good panasonic 18650 3400mw batteries to see if it makes a difference. I tested the ultrafire battery on my meter and it fluctuates between 1.5v to 3.8 (3.7v is advertised on the battery)

That is not a site you should by from. That laser should be somewhere between 5mW and 100mW, it should easily have a visible beam in a dark room. That battery will measure 4.2V on your meter when fully charged, what charger are you using?

I used a cheap harbor freight voltage meter to measure the battery voltage. I dont own a 18650 charger, they did not include one so when this battery runs out im out of luck unless i purchase a charger. I was thinking of buying these batteries Charger 2 New Panasonic NCR18650B 10A Hybrid IMR Li on 18650 Battery 3400mAh | eBay
To push this laser to its max potential, should i do it? (Grrrr when the cost of batteries exceeds the laser price itself lmao)

 Li-ion batteries almost never ship charged, you have to charge them first before using them!

Hmmm.....this ultrafire did come with power, but idk how fully charged it is. Could that be why the laser starts out strong then dims quickly? Also would the panasonic batteries be better for it?

Yes because its almost dead, as I said before that battery will read 4.2V if checked with a meter when fully charged.

The Panasonic batteries are better but those are flat top, 18650 and most sizes of Li-ion batteries come in both button top or flat top. The battery you have now is a button top, a flat top might not work as is in your laser.

The flat top panasonics are non pcb protected. The protected versions are button tops but I heard people say the protection board doesnt help and can cause problems?

There are both protected and unprotected button tops, and what problems can the protected ones cause?

Cheap laser, Cheap Batteries, Cheap Multi Meter, Cheap Charger! Why do people come here and ask for advice AFTER they have done everything wrong!?

Well Onision you have learnt something, you get what you pay for! If you are wanting a good laser and good advice have a search around on this forum before you go out and buy ANYTHING else concerning this hobby. You will find many members here that can supply you with quality lasers, parts, accessories and best of all if you use the search button you will find that just about all of your questions have already been answered many times! Also remember that not everything made in China is garbage. They can build things that are made to last, walls are one of the things that come to mind!

My chinese 500mW green laser performs almost identical to yours.
After one year, my laser started to dim and flicks, my ultrafire battery is dying!

This laser was not cheap, U$90,00, but I don't realized that it comes from China, was from a national reseller, you can't expect much from it!

My next laser will definately be bought from these forums so I know what im getting. I once bought a $220 1.5w blue ray laser but I returned it to the seller because I didnt have eye protection and I didnt wanna risk hurting myself or anyone, it was a damn powerful laser but im probably goona get another one lol
