200 mW Green Laser - Cannot pop a balloon?

Hello!

I just recieved my first laser - a 200 mW green laserpointer. My "problem" is that it cannot pop balloons. Is there a modification i should do, or should any 200 mW green laser out of the box be able to pop a balloon?

I really appreciate your help, as i am brand new in lasers

200mw is capable much more than poping balloons.. where did you get your laser from???

i am not expert but probably is your laser focused to infinity as it is a pointer... which mean that if you want to burn you have to focus it for closer distance..
but on the other hand i have had just 50mw greenie laserpointer and i was able to pop balloons without any problems within 130cm... of course i must made a black dot with a marker on it..

200mW should have no problems popping a balloon under any circumstances. It should be really easy.

Where'd you get your laser? Chances are it's less powerful than claimed.

I purchased the laser from a privat person, and the "rating" on the laser says "200 mW ; Wavelength 532 nm +/- 10 ; CLASS III LASER PRODUCT ; This product complies with 21 CFR".

I cannot fint any info about the manufactur, i just came in a whit protective box with some instructions and "LASER POINTER" written i silver inside.

I also tried to lid a latch, again without succeeding

Sorry to hear your having problems, with 200mw's you should be able to easily pop balloons & light matches with it; I know the feeling though....been there.

There are many members on here that can test the Laser's output for you, where are you located?

Can you get your money back? PayPal, Credit Card?

It is a standard eBayser style pointer. You will notice that there is a "less than" (<) sign in front of the "200" It most definitely is less than 200mW. That is normal for these types of pointers. Even if it EVER did hit 200mW it would quickly overheat and drop in output or begin to modhop. Don't feel too bad. Thousands of other unsuspecting people have been duped by this. The only way to know what it is really putting out is to have it tested with a laser power meter. If you just want to pop balloons, draw a black dot on the balloon and use a magnifying glass to "focus" the beam to a small dot.

I paid though bank transfer, so technically i cannot get my mone back - but i could try to contact the seller about getting my money back.. I pad about 175 USD as a special offer..

I am located in the small country Denmark, so properbly there are no one in range.. :\

I am very sorry. You've probably got yourself a nice green laser pointer, but NOT a burner. If you really just want to burn stuff with light, get one of these

It is a red laser so the beam won't be as bright, but it will burn dark stuff and pop dark colored balloons

If you use rechargeable batteries, you will increase the power even more

I have definetly been duped then

..

Well, i will try to contact the seller then to get my money back or to get some of the money in compensation. I have seen some modding guides on youtube, where you can turn "your cheap Ebay laser into a burning laser". Is this worth trying or is my laser just not-burning-able

..

Yeah, i am in Denmark (a very bad Country to buy electronics ;P).. Here a 125 mW red laser is 400+ USD :-X..

So i properbly should buy from outside Denmark, then i will just have to pay taxes (+ 30 USD + 40% of the amount), but it looks like it is worth is ;D..

I could try to contact some of the stores, but if anyone knew a cheap store, which would ship outside of the US it would be great

.. I don't care offering a little more, if i can get a "better" laser - or a green one, they look cooler
