Default 200 mW from Aliexpress

I received my laser today which I purchased on the 16th from a store called shadowlaser.

I charged the battery for a few minutes and then tried using the laser. I got an extremely bright beam for a second and then it died. After that, I thought the battery just didn't have enough juice so I charged it for even longer.

This is what the beam looks like now:

Whatever you do DO NOT look into the aperture. That red glow is all IR, the power behind that can be in the >300mw range. Your laser is pretty much dead.

Just another reason why not to buy from cheap sites, save yourself some money and spend it on a quality laser.

Before you buy another laser make sure you buy quality laser safety glasses. Thats if you don't want to lose your eye sight. These are not toys.

Ohhh god... I've already looked into that aperture for quite a few seconds in total.

The 405nm I bought is perfectly fine. Burns matches and I can etch paper.

That's what happens when the diode dies then? Fuck... the host is really nice. Is there any way I can just buy a new module and replace it? I definitely don't want to have to send it back and wait 15 days for seller to receive and another 15 days for another unit.

I'm also way too broke to spend more than $50 on lasers. I have so many things I need to pay and wanted to get some cheap ones from China just to have something.

Replacing the module would prove difficult since the module is likely glued in.

And obviously as long as you didn't look into the aperture whilst it was on.

A heat gun would probably melt the glue and let it slide right off, but I'm not sure if it would melt anything else that is needed.

And yes, I looked into it to find the red glow at the bottom. My eyes don't hurt at all, though.

I wouldn't go crazy on repairing it. By the time you buy a new module, you can buy another one of these options ebay for $15.

Extremador, when you first powered up your laser, were you sure to insert the batteries in the proper orientation?
Many of the 532nm units require the battery to go in neg. (-) first, instead of the normal (+) first.
Also, a few minutes will not even hardly begin to charge a discharged li-ion batt.

If you don't already have them, please purchase some safety glasses (goggles)!

I may have put the positive side down first before flipping the battery and trying again.

I've actually got another laser coming from an order I tried cancelling on Lazerpoint. I just really wanted a nice green beam that I can shine toward the stars and see it cause my previous 5 mW laser didn't satisfy me at all.

Extremador, that one time of putting the batteries in reversed could very well have killed your diode.

When you get your new unit, be sure of battery direction before you install the batteries.
One thing I always do when I purchase, or make a laser, is to mark your battery direction just inside the rear of the host with a marker, or a label.
Just a (+) or a (-) is all you need, especially helpful if you have multiple lasers that different battery configurations.

Ahhh dammit I feared that probably could have done it. For the second that I had seen the beam, it was the brightest laser I've ever seen outside of looking at pictures/video online. Even my friend saw it from the corner of his eye said something.

If I stick the battery the wrong way on my 405nm it still works (after taking it out and sticking in properly)

Guess I'll have to wait god knows how many more days until I receive my second 532nm.

Some cheap lasers and modules can handle a second of reversed polarity. But the custom builds can't. I've had 5 dollar 532 turn out to be 90mw and I would accidentally reverse the polarity and it was fine. I had a $200 custom 445nm I reversed and it immediately died. So you never know which ones can take it. Needless to say I haven't done it since. Lol

I guess I killed it then. I mean, I get the same thing with the cheap eBay lasers I tried pot modding.

This violet one I have is amazing. I've been etching on paper, plastic, and even through the glass on my wooden computer table. I pointed at my fingernail and it didn't feel like a burn, it felt like a really sharp sting going through my nail! Woot! Powerful as hell. I'm guessing way more than the 100 mW it's rated at.

405 will trick you estimating mw by the burning power. 405 burn very well because of its short wavelength. I would almost compare 500mw of 405 to 1w of 445. ( maybe a little less)

Default Re: 200 mW from Aliexpress

Well the beam doesn't seem to be too bright but I can definitely see it a lot better than the previous "5mw" eBay pen. I wish I could see it with my room light turned on but from what I've seen on here the only ones that really do that are actually blue lasers and green? That's honestly my favorite part of the whole thing. I am fascinated by light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: woot! looks like my Lazerpoint 200mw just arrived in New York this morning so I should finally get it by Monday or Tuesday! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh I feel so much better. I might just send this shit back to the seller in China and have him send me another one while I still two to love and care for.
