So I saw this 'aluminium' pen torch in a dollar store for $3... It's not a LED torch, one of those outdated tiny bulb kinds. However, that's not what I was interested in, of course ;)

It has a nice tail clicky, and a shiny finish. Also came in purple, but I picked silver. Runs off two AAA's ala any run of the mill pen style...

Here it is. I removed the front optic, reflector and bulb, which took no effort at all - all three simply popped out.

There's 14mm wide and 13mm long space in the head itself... so it might be a bit of a squeeze...

and finally the macro shot of the terminals that the bulb literally 'fell' out of... o_O

these pictures might seem rather dim, but they were done under a really bright lamp! :-?

Gah! Dude! If your pictures are of such grainy, dodgy quality there is no point putting them up as full size. It chokes my connection  Reduce the size such that it doesn't look grainy and blurry, that's how big you should make them.

I would like to comment on the actual topic... but I'll be off to bed before these pics all load...

Looks like a nice candidate ! Can ya send me a few of them ? :D Or share the name of the store, perhaps ? Texas has EVERYTHING (I think??) so I may have them near by :p It looks like with a decent circuit, you would have a nice slimline laser there :)

Looks like it will keep the diode nice and cool, how do you plan on keeping the module in there, thermal conducting adhesive or something, or is it just a nice fit already ?

And yeah senkat, cause everything is bigger in texas ;)

I'll post up a picture of the packaging sometime if I can ever be bothered if anyone's interested in finding one.
