Actually Max, I've found that a beam through snow actually looks less cool than you'd think it would. I guess that snowflakes are so big and reflective that just a few is enough to scatter the beam and it doesn't travel very far. (Unless you're using a Hercules or something!) That being said, after the snow has fallen and all the trees are puffy white marshmallow bushes, they make fantastic laser playgrounds. Just make sure there are no airports nearby and to insulate your lasers to keep them warm enough to work... ;)

Have fun! (We're expecting 30+cm tomorrow, so I'll be out in the valley park for sure)

Cheers, CC

I've found that in a light snowfall, it looks really cool because not only does the beam travel forever, but if you're in a densely forested area, the light will be refracted off in random directions (in a diffused way, not the beam itself) and start lighting up the trees and forest around you.

Good point Amnizu! Light snow is much better. It's still snowing here but I've decided not to venture out after it stops because there's a lot of bad press regarding lasers here in Toronto in the last few days and I don't want to draw any unwanted attention to myself (or to our suddenly in the limelight hobby) by shining my lasers about in a public park. I guess soon we'll be like those poor guys who collect guns as a hobby and have to deal with public scorn every time some gang-banger busts a cap in a rival. I think my next T-Shirt design will have to say something like "Lasers don't blind people... Dorks blind people." :D

arggh, get some picture's up... ;D

"Aaaargh!" right back atcha! ;D My friggin' back is killing me from shoveling... and boarding and snowshoeing and snowman making... God I love snow! Well I didn't take any lasers-in-the-snow shots because of the situation here, (as I explained above) but if you really want a picture, here's one I took out my back door last night. Yes, that is over a foot of snow burying my wife's SantaFe... (mostly from drifting though, the actual dump was more like 8-10")

We actually snowshoed out the back door. ;D

Cheers, CC

We got 52cm (20 inches) of snow over the weekend. We are close to setting a seasonal snowfall record.  The local record is 444cm and we are a little over 30cm shy, but we have a few more weeks yet.  It was lots of shovelling but we kept on top of it so we didn't have to shovel more than about 15cm at one time.

Here's a good example of how much snow we have.  Pic is down the street from my house. Note the bank size next the guy shovelling his driveway.

Heh-heh ;D I lived a few years up there too Chimo, and I know I have it a lot easier down here in T.O. At least you've got the longest skating rink in the world, beaver tails and a short drive to Tremblant to make up for it! We're close to setting a new record here as well, but it's only 207cm down here, set back in 1939. There's been a lot of melting in between dumps as well, so it hasn't accumulated nearly as badly as your photo. 444cm ? WOW. Who'd of thought global warming would mean more snow?

Cheers, CC
