Tried my 170mw 520 on a seagull on top of a light pole in the day time from maby 40 or 50 yards away. Worked just fine but like a few have mentioned, noise or a fake owl might be better as it kept going back to the same spot even after about 10 lasers tries:whistle:
Just noticed Encap's projector method link, that just might annoy them enough to not go back to the same spot:eg:

Living on a sailboat there is a constant problem with birds landing on the mast head and leaving unwanted gifts. I have seen multiple ways others have used to get rid of them. The plastic owls, or snakes, or other fake animals never seem to work and I have seen some birds actually land on them. My go to solution has been a very cheap, weak power air soft pistol that shoots biodegradable plastic BBs. This vid of a neighbors mast head shows why I don't want birds on my mast head.
