Just saw that a wicked lasers thread was deleted. Searching, I found that one is indeed missing. I'm sure you can guess.

I think it's horrible that a scumbag Chinese company can suppress free speech in the United States. Or maybe soon to be UCSSRA - United Chinese Soviet Socialist Republics of America. Up yours, China.

I guess now we have a 34th reason not to buy from those ass****s.

Reason why it was deleted is due to them threatening to sue LPF and ave.......there is a thread about it

:horse:

hopefully wicked lasers took some of the criticism as constuctive to improve their site and business. let me take a quick peek

IDK, I can't really fault them for anything other than being overpriced. this is just one person's opinion. they do at least have a safety section informing about the dangers

If I had reformed my behavior from bad to good, I would also want the thread taken down, though I am not sure in the interest of free speech I would have threatened a lawsuit. let me guess, slander

The attitude here with WL cannot be changed by simply removing threads... and their legal actions doesn't make it any better. It's time to move on though, both from 2010 WL topics and on this WL stuff in general. To be fair, they aren't the worst laser company out there. They aren't even half bad, if you are smart enough to dodge advertising and rich enough to want a cool-looking host. They're much better than 2010-2012, you have to give them that

Ave wouldn't have removed it unless under some kind of legal obligation.

That thread brought more people to the forum than any other.

Somebody in my area is selling a WL Arctic on craigslist. I sent them an email asking if I can come check it out. I have no desire to spend the 320 dollars they are asking but I would like to see the host in person.

I'm not sure how LPF, or avery could be liable for the collected opinions of various LPF members. it's not like LPF endorses every thread. whatever. does not hurt my feelings

one gripe, their site does not get into the OD of their glasses, or show any chart showing the OD at various wavelength, as does dragonlasers. looking at those charts now, it's no wonder my red blocking glasses work too well, looks like in the range I use them for the glasses are rated OD10 or so. dang

Forum owners are liable for what is posted on their forum to an extent. But what I don't understand is what happened to free speech? In that thread there were collected opinions of many different people who has dealt with them in the past. No where in the thread were there false accusations of WL just collected opinions.

Damn, just saw the explanation thread.

WL did one thing, to bring me into the laser hobby. I don't have any WL products and never will, but it did spark my interest.

I had been interested in lasers long before I knew of Wicked Lasers, but never owned a laser(except a little cat toy one) until I found this forum after seeing WL ads and searching a bit on google.

I found out about WL after I got my first laser and joined here. Glad my GF got me a cheapy newwish instead of a WL, thus letting me figure out what my first powerful laser was on my own (and help of LPF)

I admit, I almost ended up with a wicked laser err um laser. I was trying to buy it and my bank account rejected it as suspicious. so instead I got the spartan from DL, after seeing the price difference, then I found Lazerer, got the rifle, then I ended up here, where I should have started. though I still like and own my lazerer unit (I was one of the lucky ones in that department)

to be fair my bank initially rejected the DL attempt, I had to call them and OK it. +1 rep to my bank for that. I sort of appreciate the protection. buying from a chinese company is different than normal. I would be glad if someone had gotten my info and tried to buy stuff, though I also think it's a sort of privacy invasion, and a thief is probably going to buy stuff from this country anyway. so in that case -999999999 rep for that and all the other B.S. my bank has pulled, (it is a long list) on me and the rest of humanity.

but I digress, I am glad the transaction did not go through, if for no other reason than price. carry on

First real laser was a lazerer stick 532nm doing 110mW. Had issues with the first one, sent it back and got a replacement. Both worked perfect just the first one either jumped threads or seized on me. Replacement is still working afaik but I don't have it anymore

How does a Chinese company make legal threats against a US based forum? We cant sue the Chinese how can they sue us?

You can, it just takes very deep pockets. Something WL has due to scamming (in my own personal opinion their actions are a scam) lots of gullible people.

Unfortunately simply retaining an attorney to respond to a complaint, is something that easily start to run over $3000. An actual lawsuit, even more so, and even if you win, you still have to pay the lawyers. In some cases, maybe, maybe, the costs can be awarded to the defendant, but there is no guarantee.
