So while wasting hours browsing through news sites, I have now come across 10 different articles about the krapton from Wicked lasers. (No that's not a spelling mistake, I think anyone stupid enough to order it, is asking to get crapped on, hence Krapton.)

Unfortunately the coverage is not at all positive;

Never mind pilots, this green laser is so powerful it can dazzle astronauts - and it's on sale

The Wicked Lasers Krypton S3 Will Fry Passing Satellites

Wicked Lasers' S3 Krypton laser is bright enough to blind astronauts

Hopefully the price point of $300+ will reduce the number of purchases... because as of right now, I can't quite find a facepalm poster to express how I feel:undecided:

It might blow up the moon if you point it at it!

That's just it, it's the F*cking retards writing these articles that piss me off to no end. If, IF, the beam actually reaches a satellite, there is nowhere near enough focus at that distance to cause any kind of a problem.

I mean these satellites are supposed to withstand the rigors of vacuum, space debris, and who know what else in terms of electromagnetic interference, but a little light, oh no, we have a satellite killer on our hands.

Of course that doesn't make for interesting news.

They even said if they perfectly stabilized it and pointed it at a satelite a person could see a _"faint green glow"_ I think the SUN has a little more output than a faint green glow... If the sun won't wreck it a 700 mW laser 86 miles away won't either.

Jesus Christ. Has Steve got no shame?

Krypton will dazzle astronauts and fry passing satellites?!

I can only imagine what will their future 2W infrared laser advertising slogan sound like.
"Forget pilots, this laser can cut astronauts in half! And satellites, the natural ones"

I mean, I know the lasers are awesome and everything. I build them for last few years. But seriously, advertising your handheld laser to be able to dazzle pilots is just showing that you either,
- Have never held an actual laser in your hand, you just make judgements based upon youtube videos and photoshopped photographs your company feeds you ; or
- Are just a douchebag.

In unrelated news, does anyone know if those $150 "300mw" firedragons from the recent GB are focusable? If so, my wish list is about to get a lot bigger :D.

:crackup::crackup: LMFAO. I'll sign that letter too.

Nope, not without first opening it up. So basically you can set it to infinity, but you can forget about actually focusing it properly for say... burning.

Oh OK, digression - about frying satellites, it's the retarded article author, not Wicked Laser's fault. Author quoted the part of the manual where it says that one should avoid pointing it at the aircraft and satellites, presumably to prevent it being shone into planes mistaken for satellites.

Also, technically it can dazzle an astronaut if you walk up to a man and say "Hey man look here!". After which every second you spend unpunched is a miracle and you should cherish it as it if were your last. Or at least if the laser stays out of the same volume of space your body happens to be occupying at any given time.

So yeah, those who know their stuff won't expect wonders and hence won't buy the laser. Ones that buy the laser won't know what 1 watt of power looks like anyway and most likely do not have laser power meters handy.

Anybody that happens to be excluded by those two possibilities and happen to meter the laser and announce that, wow surprise, it's crap, will get instantly overrun by Wicked laser's heretics.

[^Kind of stretching my English language abilities here, hope I didn't accidentaly misuse any words without at least some great comical effect]

^^^Nah, your english is fine. Better than half of my graduating high school class.

Except maybe fanatics would be a better word to use instead of heretics.

Hopefully the 1000$ price tag will keep the general public away from this....

Kyptonite? Does that mean that the KTP in this laser is Kryptonite Titanium Oxide Phosphate instead of Potassium? Still, according to reviews popping up it's underspec maybe by 25%...
