Are you sure it's wise to be pushing a mass PL-LPF interaction? Kind of seems like a recipe for lots of drama to me.

I only really want to go because I have an interest in display and to see the 'pretty lights' heh. Not particularly to interact with many from PL, and there's more than a few from there I plan to avoid at all costs if I do actually go.

Absolutely!!

We are all laser enthusiasts. For some of us it is a hobby for others it is a livelyhood.

We are not the 'Crips' and the 'Bloods'.

I saw NO such drama last years at SELEM IV. Everybody was very nice. Respect for the hard work making show includeds not lasering onto thier hard work--just like bringing a trumpet to a concert. Only an idiot would 'toot' his horn during thier concert.

You can't blame the lasershow folks for not liking idiots shinning thier 'Greenies' without reguard to safety. AFIAK most at LPF feel the same.I dont think any making the trip and covering all the costs involved would do anything stupid there. I ask that you come with an open mind and not pre-judge. They dont care too much for sky pointing outside the venue downtown and thus drawing unneeded attention.

LPF is very welcome at SELEM V. Hopefully you will see.

Most of the problem I have with PL is that they (Or at least the more vocal ones) lump *everybody here* in with the 'idiots shining lasers around without regards for safety' even though actual people here like that don't last long.

It's really an attitude thing which I can't stand. It's like assuming everyone who drives a BMW is a prick or anyone who buys a sports car has a small penis.

I think there are members in all three forums that if they actually ended up in the same room for long, would actually end up in physical violence heh. Too many 'unchangeable' conflicting opinions.

I find that people are a lot less confrontational when they are not behind a monitor :shhh:

Either way, I'll be there! Hope to either have my scanner done before I go, but if I don't I'm sure I'll learn plenty more once I'm there.

The different forums are different cultures.

The secret to success is allowing yourself to "fit" into the culture you are in at the time and NOT trying to get that culture to "accept you" for what/who you are.

At an LEM where the focus is on shows and the majority of participants are from PL, leave your hand-held lasers in the case.

Most of the members there have hand-held lasers. They just prefer them to be held as a "side light" to the show.

The "all of them are bad" and "all of us are good" is simply the very human in-group/out-group instinct.

I do not blame them or us for that dynamic. I simply deal with the reality of it

When in Rome, do as the Romans do ;)

I've found that that is the most common sense attitude to take..

At my buddies' house what they says goes for me...

^^^ Watch it-- My 'other car' is a two wheeled Beemer('85 K_100-RT)--ha ha

I have been called a prick a few times--so guilty as charged Fox--lol
When you pass 60 not being a prick is just no longer important.
Just dont call me a 'little' prick---

SELEM lodging update--

I was just told that an even better(but kinda cramped) deal at the Holiday Inn is getting a double and squeezing one or two others on airbeds.with four that would bring down the nightly rate to ~21$ +tax.

SELEM is all about the shows etc- not the lodging- There is so much going on and stuff to see that even when I was at the HIE I spent a few hrs every night schmoozing with people in the lobby and watching even more shows-demos etc in the conference room.

BTW -- anyone living not too far away should consider making a day trip and seeing some free laser shows- all you need to do is get there and see Buffo so you can sign the Waiver. Park in back and enter thru the loading dock.
CORRECTION EDIT-- be sure to contact Adam(Buffo) BEFORE coming to SELEM- even if it is just for a day-It is a private event- NOT open to the public-- sorry if I cause any confusion.
Bring a guest, but, IMHO it is not a good place to have small kiddos.
PM Buffo at PL for more info on that and any other questions.

Lots of great items on the swap/buy/sell tables-- insider prices- bring anything tradeable.

On Friday we are putting out a Spaghetti n' Meatballs buffet- open to all but if your are not a paying attendee- it would be kind of you to stop at the tip jar and drop something in it--this starts around 1PM and goes til the food runs out or 5PM.

ALSO some of the tip jar $$ goes to offset the costs to have Dr Sam attending as our honored guest. thank you in advance-------Len
