And one more. This one is a video of an airplane These videos just show you how easy it is to get caught doing something this stupid. It's almost funny that the people who do this think they can get away with it. "hahaha they'll never be able to tell where I am" *sound of sirens and a loud bang at the door*

I don't understand such retardationists!

People should be given a government issued certificate that they need to present while doing anything from buying a box of matches to applying for a job.

I'm sure these people would be very proud to present an official document that says nothing else but: I DO NOT HAVE ANY SENSE AT ALL! In big red letters.

I didn't understand... If i want to take/play with my laser outdoors i should contact the authorities . I guess South Africa has some serious laser laws.

Thank god its not like this where i live :D.

GL

Only perhaps because I tend to shine mult watt lasers into sky. I like to stay on the right side of the law and adhere to all the safety requirements.
Actualy SA has a very relaxed laser law. I just feel if I do things right hopefully they won't go all "Australia" on me (and other SA laserists) in the future:)"

No offence to any Australians. Just hope we beat you in the quarter finals on Sunday in the rugby WC :) :)

Ok while I obviously don't condone shining lasers at aircraft I am really sick of all these drama queens on the news talking about how people can bring down aircraft with lasers. If it was that easy planes would be falling out of the sky left and right. Like I said I definitely don't condone it and I also think people that do it should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, but it seems like whenever the news reports this kind of thing they like to ignore the fact that no aircraft has ever been brought down by a civilian laser.

^^^No aircraft has EVER been brought down by ANY laser AFAIK.

I'm not a pilot, so certainly can't speak from experience, but for the VAST majority of cheap greenies out there, the divergence and power are such that they may be a distraction hazard to a pilot, but they are in no way absolutely disabling, or pose a danger to vision.

I mean honestly I can't count the number of times I have been blinded by some arsehole in a SUV with high beams on...

Exactly. When you take into account the beam divergence and distance when a plane gets hit with a laser it's not much worse than someone driving past you with there high beams on. Granted 2 people in cars is different than a plane full of people but if a pilot loses visual ability for 5 seconds (unless there landing) they're a lot safer than someone in a car losing visual ability.

In the end it's just sensationalist news trying to get viewers.

Not to mention the sun. Have you seen that thing lately? It's BRIGHT!

It's effectively laser light, someone should pass a bill limiting the sun to 5mw.

Its pretty easy. Planes and helicopters are big, and easy to find, lets ban them instead :p

I've noticed that its always a green laserpointer thats being fired at the craft. Its good to see no one in this community has taken a liking to shining a 445nm laser at an aircraft.

Still, with the dumb laws in this country my lasers stay inside, in their lockbox.

A lot of people on the ground don't realize how well they can see you from a police helicopter or plane. Add video + infrared and they can just zoom in and pick you out on the ground and at night. The first time I ever went up in the air at night (no I'm not a pilot I was being given a ride in a small plane at night) I was amazed at how well I could pick things out on the ground just looking out the window using my eyes. Add cameras that can zoom in on the ground and infrared ant its actually quite easy to pick out the dolts who shine lasers t planes.
