If I could afford to buy, or even find, the kind of lasers I want, I might do so, but so far, no one makes the ultra low divergence laser pointers I want to own.

Some people buy to learn and not need to fail, but it is true the best built lasers are not shipped to the US, and more countries, so I recommend building. Its more educational, fun, and possible.

Yes i agree well thats how we learn sometimes by failing. Failing is a lesson the be learned take a look at Mr. Edison he failed countless number of times now we all enjoy electricity.
Im not saying that were all inventors but in reality look at some of the awesome builds in this forum that folks have achieved. Lessons to be learned and earned.

For me building them is the only way to go!

Yea I bought a few in the beginning but I really came to enjoy building them and I totally agree with Alan, if you build it yourself you know the quality that went in to it and you know best how to repair it if it should suddenly stop working.

Those of you who are Star Trek fans should have a look at what Shadowsix has done. These are a perfect example of why to build your own, they are lasers you can't buy or have built for you:

For custom builds they are without precedent, models of perfection that there are no words to describe, classic moments in the history of LPF and custom laser builds.

The increasing import restrictions are certainly a problem, health Canada also has import restrictions, and of course Australia is the worst of all.

I have little doubt that if you put together the smartest members here and gave them $20 billion dollars, they could put a man on the moon, and if you gave them another $20 billion dollars they could probably also return him safely to the earth.
