I know this is laser pointer forums, but I'm just wondering how many of us own larger lasers? I'm talking lasers with a lasing medium other then a straight LD or frequency doubled DPSS arrangement. Note that larger is referring to physical size.

I know a few people have argons and a couple with CO2 lasers.
Lets hear what you got!


I've got an old Omni 532 multiline Argon-Ion doing ~50mW at max current, and a HeNe on the way.

I HAD an argon so I checked that on the list as well, and I have my HeNe tube I bought from wannaburn not too long ago :)

I have hobby lasers and factory lasers

Hobby lasers:

Ruby (built when I was 14) Long since dismantled
YAG: Dead, poor Q-switch and flashlamp couldn't take my abuse. New more powerful one in the works
DYE pumped by nitrogen long since dismantled. By the way if you want to build a cool UV laser that's pretty easy to build go for a nitrogen.
60W CO2 died in catastrophic coolant pump failure. Output coupler blitzed.

Factory Lasers:

532nm 100mW portable
532nm 1000mW Lab
532nm 100mW OEM integration system
532nm 50mW Lab
Assorted 532nm Class IIIa pointers (actually used for presentations)

473nm 10mW OEM integration system
473nm 100mW Lab

And for the coup de grâce, I have a line on a 10W 532nm CW unit. I hope I can get it. Oh the videos it will spawn!

Wow. I'm in amazement. I thought I was doing pretty good with my couple of Argons. Nice collection FrothyChimp!

I've got an argon laser (single-line - hope to swap it someday for a multi-line), a HeNe doing a few mw and of course, The Beast.

Edit: I actually found that YAG laser I've been looking for! But I can't change my vote..... so in addition to all the ones I listed I will be adding a pulsed 2 joule YAG laser to my collection in a couple of weeks....I'll have to start thinking up a name for that one. I like to name my lasers - at least the class 4 ones!

So FrothyChimp, there's a guy on youtube who built a ruby laser into an ammo box.Was that you? :p

I demand a beam shot.

Of all of them at the same time.

Better still arrange them so all the beams cross at a little point. Then burn anything and everything.
