I want to use a solid state laser to write on plastic. We are turning plastic parts on a second operation lathe. While the part is still in the lathe, I want to print dot matrix numbers on the part. The lathe has servo drive on the spindle and we can rotate the part a slow as necessary. I need a laser that will etch a 0.02 mm diameter dot on the plastic in less than 0.5 ms.
Any ideas on the power and wavelength of a q-switch type laser? Adding the serial number on the part using a laser while the part is in a second operation lathe would save us a lot of production time. This is why I am choosing to not go with a turn-key laser etcher. Thank you.
