Hi guys! I'm new to the Laser Pointer Forums and sorry if there is already a tread on this but I was wondering what would be best for burning? I know violet is pretty good b/c of its "violent" wave pattern, but I also hear that you can hardly see the beam b/c it's at the beginning of our visual spectrum. So would it make a difference at 200MW? I was wondering which I should get. Thanks Guys. :thanks:

200mW green will be stupid bright, and 200mW violet will burn better. is the green focusable? if so, id go with that one.

both aren't focasable, and ya, I'm gonna go w/ the violet b/c I want to burn things and you're right, green would be annoyingly bright. Thanls for being my first person to reply to my first post!:)

The "annoyingly bright" is an advantage not a problem.

The advantage is that it will make you aware of the strength/danger of the light and go buy some goggles. :D
Burning happen up close where there will be lots of reflection back into your eyes, without goggles you are more or less certain to cause permanent damage to your retinas. So postpone the burning until your goggles arrive.
(And get them for the right wave lenght.)

Could you give us a link to the laser you're buying? Also, since they aren't focusable, the green would burn better in this case, because of the thin beam. Greenies beams are wayyyy thinner.
Also, like Toke said, please buy goggles as well. :) they certainly help. Ad your vision is worth more than the goggles:)
if you're buying from wicked, I'd advise you go with rayfoss or o-like. They're cheaper, and have great customer service, I've bought from both. And most of their lasers are focusable, which means more burning power!^^

I don't suggest buying from wicked lasers. I don't believe those lasers are actually bring shipped out yet. It would be some time even months before you get it. People have waited a "very" long time for their arctic.

I suggest rayfoss or o-like for a laser. Personally 200mw of green can burn better than you think. Violet will burn better for instance white paper and cardboard. Visually a 200mw green laser is like looking at the sun. Its very intense. 405nm light on the other hand will be alot less. Its really hard to describe really. Again i dont suggest buying from wicked but its your money choose to do what you wish with it. If you have any more questions you can pm me or post here.

Please try not to post double threads. You can get banned for it if you continue to do so and alot of the members here will be upset about it.

Thanks,
Jeff

hard to see wavelengths like 405nm are a lot more dangerous though. Since it doesn't look that bright, most people think it can't be dangerous.. when the reality is 200mw is 200mw regardless of wavelength when in the 375nm-1400nm range. It all fries your retina the same regardless of how bright it appears. And below 375nm and above 1400nm will spare your retina, but damage the lens and cornea of the eye instead.

I recommend Rayfoss. I can confirm that their customer service is one of the best I have ever seen and their lasers are always up to spec or over it.
I agree with Toke you should definitely get those goggles and that is another reason to go with Rayfoss, because apart from the product itself being good quality for the price, they also add a charger, battery and a pair of goggles for your protection if you buy a 200mW laser from them.

I think, if you are new in lasers, DON'T buy a 200 mW violet at first. Becouse you won't sense its power. You will burn with green too, and you will see why do you need goggles for burning, and you will have more fun with the greenie. :) But it's your choice. BTW the green lasers are at the same price as violets.

I mean all you have to do is get a lens to focus the beams on the e3's and people have been receiving their lasers a lot better lately, they're starting to get back on track it seems like.

It doesnt seem like it, but if your still planning to go with wicked lasers, dont. Alot of their goggles end up being completely useless. Some of them are worse than the 7$ focal price goggles...
If you still want to go with wicked stay away from their goggles and go with another pair thats actually proven to work

Good advice thanks, i was just about to buy some goggles from them too. What is a respected site thats not gonna cost to much that sells protective eye wear. Also why are their goggles bad.
