I am buying a laser and i want it to burn really well, I have found 2 within my price range.

Which one will burn better?

Purple laser, 200mW and 405nm wavelength

or

Green laser, 500mW and 532nm wavelength?

Any answers would be highly appreciated!!!

If they are both up to spec lasers, the 500mW 532nm green will burn. That's a 300mW difference in power output.

Oh and what is your price range, because you can't find a 500mW green for cheap.

Thanks, but wouldn't the wavelength difference of 127nm make a difference or would the output power completely counteract that?

My price range is quite high, thats why I found a 500mW green in the price range.

Wavelength has little to do with power. mW is what you want to look at for burning power.
Be sure to purchase safety goggles as high powered lasers are dangerous.

Also I'm curious to see which site you are purchasing from. I could possibly give you more advice on the subject.

But if i want it specifically for burning wouldn't the 405nm be able to burn better?

I am buying from china

shorter wavelength = better burning
Because less wavelength mean higher frequency, frequency * wavelength = light speed in vacuum
Higher frequency means higher damage you get from the light

You are comparing a 200mW to a 500mW. A 200mW violet laser vs a 200mW green laser would result in the violet being very minimally better in burning. But a 200mw violet vs a 500mW green would result in the 500mw green burning way better than a violet at 200mw would.

If you are looking to spend a lot of money on this 500mW I would do a lot more research first because it seems to me that you are fairly new to lasers. And 500mw is a very strong laser for someone who is new. I hope you have read the safety precautions when handling any class 3b or 4 laser product. This forum has a lot of great information on it, maybe do a little more research before your purchase so that you are not disappointed.

Also, what is the website that you are looking to purchase from. I would do background research on the company before purchasing because I know that if I purchased a 500mW and it was under spec, I would be angry

ok thanks hoo7h, so what one will burn better out of the two?

If you are talking about only these, I would personally go with the 405nm, higher out put green lasers are usually under-spec, and have a lot of IR lose.

But if you take my advice, get your self a 445nm DIY laser, DTR offer great deals check em out,. If you are not into building your own laser, buy one from the BST section

Yes and to add on to what hoo7h said,
If you are simply interested in burning go with a high powered 1-2watt 445nm laser. You could purchase one of these from a reputable member of this forum on the buy/sell/trade section of the forum for a great price. Or you could purchase one from reputable companies such as: dragonlasers, lazerer, laserglow, or o-like and many more.

oh FFS sablehit i am not 'new' to lasers, i have been using them for years, obviously you seem WRONG!

also i have researched lasers a lot

what the F*CK do you mean 500mW is very strong for someone new, FOR A START I AM NOT NEW TO LASERS and i have owned many 200-300mW lasers

YES I DO READ SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR POWERFUL LASERS!

WHAT THE F*CK DO YOU MEAN "A BACKGROUND CHECK"??!?! I HAVE ORDERED ALMOST ALL MY LASERS FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for the advice though sablehilt, it is just i am angry that you thought i was new to lasers, the only thing that im a little bit dark on lasers is the difference that wavelength makes!

ok thanks for the advice hoo7h i will look in the BST section

also, sablehilt, I would absolutely love to buy a 1-2W laser but it would be too much for me! :(

ok, thanks, sorry for outbursting, its just i was angry that you thought i was new to lasers? i am still not sure what to get, but i am thinking that the green might be a little under-spec so i might go for the purple
