Getting ready to start doing some experimenting with my nm445. What's the coolest experiment you have done with your laser? We all know the common ones like burning a match, steel wool, candle, popping balloons, burning wood, lighting up sparklers, exploding firecrackers, lighting gunpowder, or rocket engine propellent, etc... What are some other cool experiments you have done.

I wouldn't classify burning things as an "experiment," But I put a hole all the way through a raw egg once - that was kinda fun.

An experiment with lasers involves pump crystals and lots of optics. Burning is more like dicking around, it's not exactly experimentation.

Setting grass on fire with my 4.4W accidentally was kinda fun.

Well I poured gas on my report card then ignited it with my 445 :D It was the most amazing thing ever :lasergun:

Also burning bugs is extremely entertaining but must be done with goggles !

yeah burning is fun, but prisms mirrors and a lot of smoke is better! sometimes I set up a laser obstacle course in the hall and make my roommates navigate it to get to the bathroom. if they contact a beam I shoot them with airsoft :p I guess that's more of an experiment in human behavior than lasers, but w/e I don't have any fancy optics yet, but I'm looking at buying some dichroics in the near future.

Used a 125mw 532 on black heat shrink tubing in a confined area. Very clean.
