That "may" be the problem, not 100% sure though. Have you tried warming up the laser in your hands for a couple of minutes before using it? That may help you get constant output, what I DO know is it wouldn't hurt to try ;)

Best of luck with Optotronics by the way

This was the reply from someone named Jack.

"There is a 90 day warranty, so if the unit was not dropped or subjected to excessive voltage, we will replace it.
This kind of failure is not normal and usually only happens when the unit has been dropped or over-voltage batteries were used. If the shock and over-voltage sensors have not been triggered, it will be replaced right away. So if it has not been dropped and no lithium batteries were used, please mail"

Now i know i didnt drop the laser or anything like that. It must have been my batteries although i dont see why. The instructions said to use 1.5 volt, however i used 1.2 volt Eneloops (rechargeable), which as far as i know are not lithium batteries

Could it have been my fault for using those batteries?

Did you ever try this laser with 1.5V batteries?

Not enough voltage won´t kill the laser, but result in much lower output sometimes.

By the time i went to try some 1.5 volt Duracell the laser would not even turn on at that point, even though just minutes before that it was working full power. I could actually see a beam in a well lit room and then minutes later the laser was dead. Im beginning to wonder if it was dropped during mail delivery after all. I take care of my lasers i dont think i did this

ok i just wanted to update this after having gotten a replacement and used it for a few days. Its been perfect so far and Jack at Optotronics was a professional about everything. I was just unlucky the first time around. It happens to everyone at some point.
