What does a 1W WL cost to produce?

Say that you produce in an amount of 100-1000, what would a S3 Arctic 1W cost to produce? All parts that is, host, leds, smartswitch, driver, diode and all the parts. An estimate?

Would also be nice to know for the Krypton?

The Arctic probably costs around $75 all parts considered, maybe $100. The Krypton is probably more around $300-$400 for the 1W version. But that's just an estimate.

Why does it matter? Even if you knew you couldn't go to WL and say.. "but they only cost you $xxx to make.. sell me one for that!" They won't no matter how much anyone whines to them.

I have zero love for WL but business is business, and most people seem to forget that 'parts costs' are only part of the equation. There lots of other business expenses, like utilities, payroll, etc, that come out of the 'markup'.. plus if your not making money there's no point in doing it. I doubt even you would enjoy working for free.. after all.

Arctic: Well lazerer does one for $139.99 but that doesn't include smart switch and the other modes + lens. I doubt the extra labour + parts is more than $50, so between $100 - $200.

Krypton: Would guess using similar method above, $200-300.

It would be easier to estimate if their lasers were actually of decent spec.

Their arctic costs maximum 200$.
They just want to make a lot of money.

Considering the economics of scale, I can't see the Arctic cost being higher than $75 shipped.

About the lazerer clone (although other companies are selling it too now) it might actually be more expensive to produce since it required an extra part for focus.

Also as already mentioned, there are other costs that we can't see from parts alone.

Specifically with WL, the price of marketing comes to mind.

Very true about the marketing costs. But for just the laser I would say they cost between 75-150$ for the arctic and 175-275$ for the krypton.

No WAY is their cost approaching anywhere near $150 on Craparctic.

The Krapton is probably somewhere in the $150-$200 range... but exactly same laser, just binned for module efficiency to see if they sell it in the 300mW 500mW or 1W category (not that it ever actually reaches those

So I can't see them selling the 300mW so close to cost.

Your right about the arctic I take that back. When I think about it's just the host which they have machined in china for dirt cheap, the drivers which are also dirt cheap from china and the diodes.

What does a 1W WL cost to produce?
