What do you use lasers for?

I just thought they were cool, as you can see the actual beam of the laser. Besides burning things and making them to see how powerful you can make them, what do you use/make lasers for?

I think they're like a zippo or a butterfly knife.. something that's interesting just because. ;)

I'm sure that this will shock many of you

However

I actually use them as pointers when giving lectures

I know

It IS a radical idea

But someone needs to push the envelope

Haha, I totally forgot about using them as a tool.

burning, waving in the night sky, sometimes as illumination when a flashlight is short of hand, and I'm assembling a 1.8W 20kpps RGB this weekend.

I wave them around in the sky, hit clouds, and burn stuff.
And impressing people of course.
If I had it when I was lost in the wilderness, I would use it to signal helicopters...after I told them to look for it with a cell phone, or just if one was flying. This is the ONLY legiment reason to use a laser when there's an aircraft around IMO.
If I waterproofed a high powered blu-ray/red, I could use it if I didn't have matches in a situation like above.

I use my burner(s) to zap spiders in my house, I hate the bloody things.

I also have fun outdoors on foggy nights, I sometimes bring my lasers along too  ;)

I also bounce the beam around the room using various mirrors, lens, ect... to make some cool effects. Some spray smoke helps too.

And finally, I play as Luke Skywalker with my green poniter and......   well you get my drift.

Impressing people, burning things, confusing people, fluorescence...and oh man do I love those beams!

The only "legitimate" use I have for lasers is to check the heat of soup/tea/whatever. My dad thinks it's a waste of time, but I don't. (My mom likes to make her liquids hot enough to potentially cause burns, no exaggeration. If I can see the beam in daytime, I'll come back in another 10 minutes.)
