Well, not the hello I would prefer...

Hello everyone,

I admit I have not been a active user of this forum, however upon reading some local news this morning I've decided to cast off my lurker status.

I don't have a dozen multi-watt lasers in super awesome hand held hosts(yet), and most of my ideas & research in this area are still in their infancy. However I have found only a wealth of information on this forum & eagerly look to increase my participation here in the future.

But like I said this is not the hello I'd prefer.

This morning I learned of a Laser Pointer Ban being passed in my state.

As you can all imagine, I'm not too pleased about this. So I'd figured I would at least bring it to the attention of others.

Well, I promise next time I start a thread it will be more interesting...

Banning the sale of a laser pointer would not extend to the sale of "components" that could be used to make a laser pointer. For example, a hobbyist could still legally buy a host, diode, module, etc. and put them together. There are lots of build kits available on this forum that can be used to "create" but not "buy" a laser pointer with minimal effort, so I think that this new law, if it become a law, shouldn't impact a LPF member too much.

Yes too right if you read the bottom of my signature it says exactly that ..i tell you what if some basterds did a home invasion i would have no doubt in my mind if threatened i would grab one of my 1 plus watt blues and defend myself against a gun or knife with a blast to the face regardless of the laser laws some basterd can stab me ,bash or shoot Me but i cant shine a laser in eyes to defend myself no way. I always have one of my blues close to hand and i have no kids to worry about grabbing it and doing something horrid to themselves.Bottom line they shouldn't be in my house i have a right to defend myself with whatever

Yes, says bans the sale of laser pointer greater than 1mw--same way Federal law bans over importation and sale of >5mw.
It just means NJ loses sales tax money really because people will buy out of State.

Does not make ownership of whatever power, banned.

So if Christie signs it, it means you can't be in the business of selling over 1mw in NJ --same as you can't legally be in business selling greater than 5mw in US. That law will effect only those people NJ selling >1mw, < 5mw . I don't imagine many people buy lasers in that range from a NJ business--so it means Staples can only sell 1mw or less in NJ--- is going basically impact the impulsive kids and ignorant parents when they are on the boardwalk or getting cigs at a privately owned gas station

Still not good news---maybe Christie will not sign, shelving the issue for a time.

The FAA has already addressed the improper use of lasers aimed at aircraft and the penalties are quite severe. There is a lot of regulation already --FDA regulates laser sales see: http://www.fda.gov/AboutFDA/Transparency/Basics/ucm302664.htm

Bit of topic but so true, so when I'm not beaten to a pulp, stabbed or shot because i defended myself in a totally defensive way they will be blind or partially blind how sad ....not ,don't be in my house or threathen me ...given the fact that super nanny state NSW you cant even own a 1mW plus laser is beyond belief ....
