Default Weird laser diode?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm looking for a diode for a DIY project and found this one. It looks like it's cut in half, so my question is can I just use it as a normal diode in an Aixiz module?

That will work fine, those are just laser diodes without a can around them, I have several of that same type, no problems using a Aixiz type module if you buy the right one for its size.

Here's another diode which is higher power than that one, the LPC840. They are selling the LPC836 and LPC840 together in this listing for less cost:

Welcome, I'm in Anchorage.

Edit: I should add, because of the wavelength, the lower power diode you asked about will appear brighter than the LPC840, so maybe better to go with 635-638nm if that is what you want.
