I think you will be ok without compound, and adhesive will be unnessicary

Note : if you purchase an extra pill/battery contact board you can use both diode/driver combos in one host, just a quick swap

Not a real good idea, not that quick of a swap, and too many people don't know how to properly screw these together and twist their wires and break a pin off the diode.

Thanks, glad to know it will be okay without it. If/when I do a higher power build, where do I put the compound and adhesive?

Ask again when you build it, it may or may not be needed.

Another S4 host is only $35. At that little amount I would rather just build another and only have to put batteries in it when I would like to use it. Also the adhesive for attaching the driver, is that for a round driver you mean? As far as I can tell, the square ones don't get glued to anything.

The round drivers snap into a brass ring that then presses into the driver pill tge square drivers that need adhesive glue to a heat sink. If the driver is attached directly to the diode (in the back half) it usually doesn't need heatsinking. If you look at SLasers site at driver heatsink pill, you will see a little flatspot for glueing the driver heatsink to

Which is what I did, twice. I sent the two back to the person who built them when he offered to fix them for free but I planned to pay anyway (it was all my fault). Well zoom ahead a few months, doesn't look like I'm getting them back. At all. Over $500 invested there. Got me on the 'fool me twice' version.

Caveat Emptor.

I was also thinking of building my own 520nm green laser. However it seem to be a difficult task for me so I didn't do it yet.

have you got the money back ovni?

Not all of it. My three disputes with PayPal covered two of the three lasers he still has and netted me ~$700 as PayPal ruled in my favor for all three disputes. The third one he has I paid him $390 way back in the middle of September 2015 to build but I also sent him a host I bought from Eghemus for $120 to put the laser insides into. In addition I bought a couple FAs for that particular design from Eghemus for $40. So I'm still out $550. All I want is for him to send the third one to me. I don't care if it isn't finished, just send me the parts and host back and I'll finish it. I even offered to send his wife a shipping label. No luck. It's past the 180 day mark so PayPal is out which may be why his wife isn't responding anymore.

I see he or maybe his wife still checks in here but no postings. I still have small claims court as an option. I have documentation with timelines for everything so proving it is straightforward. However, it would probably cost me as much to fly down there, file and follow-up. I may check into that this week.

Okay so I got my parts and built my 2 lasers. Everything went together pretty well. My 515 has a rectangle off to the side of the dot. Any idea what its caused by and how to fix it? I'm using the g2 lens. My phone isn't letting me upload pictures either.

Lol, fix it by changing lenses. The g2 has a box splash you'll get use to it. A 3 element will fix it
