Well, some good news, tried my nubm44 this morning to find it as strong as ever. What a rough diode! Love my 9mm stuff

I would be more concerned with those batteries that got so hot. Did the protection actually work? I have very few protected cells as is likely true with most here. Switches can be very finicky with how much spring tension they get on them. Get too much and they can be stuck on or off and too little usually the switch won't work or it might be intermittent. I personally don't trust an anodized coating to protect against shorts either and I really don't like battery rattle. Tend to use a thick clear plastic like the stuff you can buy at an automotive store that is used to put on top of things like rocker panels to protect against paint chipping but also use thick photo paper too.
I've had a few batteries I didn't trust and would always make themselves burn up in a metal container with water well away from any danger before trashing them. Concerned they might start a garbage fire.
Anyways, if any of my batteries ever got hot like that I would destroy them otherwise I would be afraid theres potentially internal damage and one day they would blow up in a charger. I don't care how safe a charger claims to be, I don't charge unless I'm in the room with them and can touch them every once in awhile.

You don't by chance take the sleeping aid Zolpidem (generic) - brand name Ambien? It has a widely known side effect of causing memory loss of activities undertaken while on it. There are several court cases where something tragic happened and its effect was used as a defense (e.g. against premeditation). I found out by discovering some soldering work I performed the previous night. Interestingly, though, my actions were unimpaired. I did a good job, properly turned off the equipment and put it away but just didn't have any recollection of doing it. When I told my doctor she said to only take it (literally) right before getting into bed. For example, I used to take it then continue to stay up and do activities while waiting to get sleepy.

I had a friend that was prescribed Ambien who went to the Crossfit I worked out at that was trying hard to cut weight to no avail. He was eating super clean and killing himself at the gym preparing for a bodybuilding show but was actually gaining weight. One night his wife awoke to an empty bed at 3am and called out for him but heard no answer so she got up to investigate. She found him sitting in his car in the garage eating cliffbars which he kept in his trunk. Apparently he was getting up in the middle of the night after taking Ambien and was chowing down on dozens of them then throwing the wrappers in the garbage bins outside where they found many wrappers.

Its an interesting drug that has a side ffect of sleep eating. there are even accounts of people getting up and driving to late night Mcdonalds with no memory of doing so.

I'm thinking at least 30 mins to get as hot as it was, actually have blisters on my right hand.
This host has a short duty cycle, 1min is so with this diode. I think I'm gonna stick to 9mm 2 to 5 watt diodes, they are cheap, reliable and press right into a 35mm module that has a very long duty cycle. The nubm44 just catches everything on fire lol.

Oh dang! Lol yeah that diode is a beast. Def one of the only diodes that actually scares me.

Wow, that is scary. Beast diode indeed, amazing it survived that.

Horrible side effects indeed but as a lifter, lol at Crossfit.
