Tyler, aka Meatball, was passing through Iowa today. He drove over 100 miles out of his way to visit me here in North Iowa.
He's the first one to see the starwarz gun work and he got a preview of what a 445 nM diode can do.
Tyler --- Be careful with that 445 when you get it and enjoy the color.

Very nice!

I am so spoiled living here in Southern California. I get to see other hobbyists all the time. Need to find a reason to go through Iowa, eh?

Peace,

Meeting Mike was a pretty awesome experience for me. He showed me pretty much everything he was working on. I definitely know what my basement is going to look like in a few years..

I got to see 3 wavelengths I hadn't seen before- 593, 473, 445nm.

I got to see what galvos look like when they're up and running.

I saw a 445 diode suck up an amp of current.

I saw the Starwarz gun write on a board of wood, using an open flame as the pen.

I got to see 9mm diodes and C-mounts for the first time.

And I got to see local collateral damage done around the house from a C02 mishap. I good safety warning.

I saw a lot of firsts on that Saturday, plus a lot more! Mike is an awesome guy to go and visit! It might seem like he's 'out of the way' a bit, but Iowa is a BEAUTIFUL place to drive through, and Mike just might offer you some whiskey while you're up there.

Mike, thanks for the diff grating, the TEC, and for allowing me to visit on such short notice.

I've got a power supply and LPM on the way, and now that I've been shown how it's done, I can get to testing those 445s when they come in!

Thanks Mike,

Tyler -- It was good to meet you and a chance to show off my piles of science.
Glad you could make it here and get home in your "car"!!! Wish you had a truck, you would have owned an Enterprise II Argon !

HMike

Be sure to post your data on your 445. They seem to be all over the place.

Surprised he was the first one, even if you out of the way for most.
Bring a video camera next time! Those piles of science deserve some video. Oh and sounds like you should really bring a truck too.

Halo --

You really need a water cooled argon laser for your collection. It weighs only 200 pounds and I will load it. There's a forklift at the welding shop !!!

Now if I toss a generator in the truck I can totally make a portable "build" too. :san: Well presuming it would handle the power requirements. It will compliment my keychain builds perfectly!
Your selling it yes? Kinda sounds like your just giving it away to the first person to show up with a truck. :D
