Hey guys,

As you all may know im only 17 and don't currently have a job. I reply on birthday money/money which is given to me to purchase all my lasers.

Nevertheless, while my stay here with my dad, my father informed me that a certain restaurant in Paris was looking for help and I could possibly be hired, cool huh? Not only that but by only working 4 hours everyday for 1 month I could make $768 which by French standards is minimum wage!!!! Not only am I excited to finally get a job and be able to purchase more of what I want, but I can now buy more laser accessories I have been always wanting but never had the money to do so!

We are currently waiting on the guy from the restaurant before this is all said and done. Anyway, I will keep you all updated :D

PS: Might finally be able to buy my Rigel!

Well I see at least 4 others of us besides you Alex have never worked in a restaurant. If its all you can get then give it a try and best of luck with that. Beware there are some things that will stay with you the rest of your life that you can never forget, this could easily turn into one of them. It is very hard work and you must work very fast and it is a very hostile work environment. Good luck but try for something else as soon as you can.

You are a young guy. At 17 you can handle 4 hours a day of anything!

It doesn't matter where you start Greenlander, starting somewhere is far bester than not starting at all. My best mate started out as a sheep sheerer and now is a millionaire running several businesses and still having time to be "Real" But even if he had stayed sheering sheep most shearers are earning $3000 + per week. Just enjoy it for the experience, learn from it and take whatever you learn, the good and the bad with you wherever you go! Good luck Maaaaaate!

Congrats man! I'm 17 too and I hope to find some work in the summer holidays as well!
Even if I don't find some work I'll probably get some money for my practise work in a t-shirt printing company (my graphics school requires me to work 84hrs in a graphics company) and there will also be some work to do with my neighbours...
I was really busy with school so I haven't been able to log in and read and post on here, sorry for that. I still haven't bought any lasers or equipment or a soldering iron because my pc died, my camera died and I don't have much money...
PS I can't see the other 6 posts apart from the first one?! Taken care of.

Personally I would take the job but I wouldn't spend all of it on lasers. You can get a decent Rigel for quite cheap, mine only cost $200USD. You can spend the rest of that on other things or save it for a bit.

768 for a month of working 4 days per week comes out to a wage of 6.4 dollars per hour. So it is below US minimum wage which kinda sucks. BUT getting a job is a great idea and would open up a nice number of doors both for lasers and for future jobs. Picture going into an interview in America for a restaurant and saying that you worked for a restaurant in Paris. Has a nice ring to it.

Oh! And save the money! It is easy to spend on food or movies or what have you. I had nothing saved after my first job. Don't make my mistake. Have a goal and achieve the goal. Decide what laser you are striving or working for. It will help time go by faster and it will keep you saving

He said that it's 4 hours per day part time. So a 20 hour work week for a month, which is about $9.60/hr. Decent, but factoring in the cost of living in Paris it's not going to add up to a whole lot unless everything else is covered.

Even the cost of VAT will suck down 20% of your income. The Euro may be worth more than the dollar on paper, but unit per unit doesn't buy as much!

Ah, it seemed he was saying he would be working everyday during that month.

I was going to comment yesterday, but didnt get round to it. Apartments here cost anything between 300 - 450 /month + electricity, water, heating, rubbish collection etc.. If accommodation hasnt been offered, I would recommend looking for a shared let "une colocation"; look for student offers, if there is a university nearby. If there are any summer language schools they too, will probably have some cheap offers. A good place to find apartments is online and I found one through this site (Petites annonces gratuites d'occasion - leboncoin.fr).

Its a great opportunity, so dont get me wrong, but please do your calculations first before buying any lasers...Food here is not cheap and neither are the bars/clubs.;) :beer:

P.S if you want any more info on living in France, or tips etc about finding a place, what you should pay in terms of deposits etc just shoot me a PM. :)
