Ah. Yeah everything I'm seeing online is from China, is there better local source for these?

Why not mod the laser level with a green module?

I thought of that, but I'm afraid it will diffuse the beam too much and it will look like crap.

But I'm new at this and you guys are pretty pro, suggestions for a leveler that I can dissect?

Also: 5x cost disparity between line generator lens and a leveler...

But I could have a leveler now....lol

The lens is cheap, but you'll get a better effect with a rotating beam. Defused beam would be a good idea. 1. for better eye safety, and 2. would make a wider beam for better visuals.

I thought you already had the level.

Just played around with this a little bit and yeah, the lens in the laser level is going to be PERFECT.

So now I need a laser that runs off of 12 volts. Any good suppliers for that sort of thing? Where do I look (domestically)?

You'll have to bring the voltage down to ~3v using a resistor, or use an external power source to power the laser.

Nnnngh okay problem.

That I've already experienced, I think.

I can't get a 100mW laser in the US, can I?

I used O-Like last year, trying to get lasers that could pop balloons to install in a set of replica proton packs, but the shipment took too long and the lasers were utter garbage.

What options do I have?

Option 1: Read more
Option 2: Read carefully
And most important option 3: Consider the advices given!

Someone said that the lenses can be purchased at o-like.com...5 posts later you ask where to buy some *tststs*
Now the next no-go: someone adviced you to go for an 50mW Laser to be rather "safe"..now you ask where to buy 100mW :wtf:

If you don't need the advice of experienced people, why do you ask them?

Oh wow you're right. My numbers are waaaay off!

My first pointer was the ThinkGeek green pointer which is a 5mW pointer. For some reason, I was convinced that it was a 50mw. This explains sooooo much.

No no no you're absolutely right. I'm reasonably certain I'm covered on all front. O-like was a good deal, but my projects are generally in too much of a time crunch to order from China.

Going over all my resources again, I think I have everything I need so far! :D

Someone pointed me to these things.
COPAL POLYGON MIRROR LASER SCANNER - Surplus Shed

Any knowledge of their capabilities here?

Too big-24vdc and Fred is out of them ATM.

couldnt you accomplish somwthing close to your wantS with a simple fan pattern(w/ a line lens) slowly rotating-with 1RPM MOTOR==IE A CLOCK. Sweep is way harder than simple rotation. could be done , tho , with a RC sevro.

I got it!

You could take a mirror and attach one side of it to a base plate with a hinge. On the opposite side attach a bar/rod. The other side of the bar connects to the edge of a disc on a slowy rotating motors axle. The motor is mounted to the same base plate.

It would work like a piston in a car, translating rotating motion to back and forth motion. Then it moves on side of the mirror with the other side on a hinge, so a laser bounced off the mirror would "scan" back and forth.

Also for the green laser, I believe modwerx.com stocks o-like modules and they are US based so you could have it in a couple days.

yep- that would turn in the same fashion as a osssilating fan- I have had a mirror on one for ~7yrs. cheapie plastic fan- it rotates a Tunnel EFX back and forth. and its on a hinge so I can aimit where I want.

good solution Ben!

hope we see some pics/vids after all this input---lol
