Default Trench periscope & Geiger counter

While picking up the trench periscope, guy had a Geiger counter cheap. I don't know what I'm going to do with it yet.
I did check the radioactive marbels we all have. Needle didn't move much or at all for that matter. Periscope looks like it was made by a plumber. Cool case I wasn't expctintg.

Take the GC to the beach, there are many places on the west coast with high radiation levels that shouldn't be there.

Well sadly this is 'high dose' meter. It only detects gamma, and only high intensities. It's for surveys of the hotspots right after nuclear attacks. It's all but useless for finding common radioactive stuff.
I have CDV 777 .. which looks ALMOST exactly the same .. but has stand alone probe, and the insides are completely different. That can pick beta from Uranium marbles.

Thank you DrSid. I believe you are correct. I was, looking at a site called Anythingradioactive. Someone on this forum mentioned it months ago. Seems it's only good, for,a,conversation piece, and if,you ever needed one, you just survived a nuclear explosion. Paid $50 for it, and have already enjoyed its use as a conversation starter. Just one of those creepy things left over from the Cold War. It's on a shelf in the living room.
Thanks again. Looks like,I got good Halloween prop though.

Yeah, $50 is good price. And while my CDV700 could actually be useful, it's too big, clunky and beautiful to be really taken outside. Also historic. Based on serial number I estimate it to 1962. It's prized piece of my collection
Btw. don't leave batteries inside when it's in the shelf.

Also yes, anythingradioactive is the site to go. I have most my radiation related stuff from them. I have some older Soeks from them, and while it has really poor controls, it works well and is very sensitive. But even at their site, most Geigers they sell will only pick up gamma.
