Strange diode

I pulled this from a sony HD DVD player yesterday. I think I saw a thread about a similar diode a few weeks ago but I cannot find it . Whats the deal with the can being at an angle,Is it good for anything? and no I didnt smash it .

It kind of looks crumpled to me, but if it actually isn't, my thoughts are it helps prevent back reflections into the die.

Well according my best empirical guess. It would be from a sony model # 0299605. But that's only a guess.
Sorry that was the serial # the model # is slv-d201p

If nothing else the circuit board is covered with every cap I could ever need and a nice little heatsink for a lm317
