I just got this email from wicked lasers...

Hi Laser Community,

It’s time for The YouTube Challenge! Pull that video recorder out of that closet and get those batteries charging. We’re looking for creative videos to place on the homepage of Laser Community. The videos could be funny, artistic, or could even be a Wicked Lasers commercial showcasing our lasers. Get this, the GRAND WINNER will receive the not yet released Spyder III laser unit with an average output of above 400mW!! For more information, please visit http://www.lasercommunity.com/the-youtube-challenge-win-a-spyder-iii-laser-t16970.html.

Good Luck,

Wicked Lasers

Spyder III??? Its not on their site yet, but this obviously means its coming soon.

Anyone going to try for it? Im sure if you win the prize and get the first spyder III theyll want to send you one thats at least up to spec, am i wrong?

btw, i wonder what the price tag will be on this thing. ::) As much as i hate wicked lasers, i gotta admit theyre lasers look really nice on the site, especially the waterproof spyder. Although if ive got 2000 bucks to spend, itll be on something i know will be up to spec, like laserglow.

edit: actually, i just realized this is their ultimate advertising strategy... get a buttload of people to make videos for you and have them post them all over the internet, and give one guy a prize. I say we go in and flag all the videos we see ;D

It's the same reason Wickedlasers will give people like fuzion666 a Spyder GX, BX and Sonar II, even though that's easily $4000 of lasers, they'll make it hand over fist when he puts up 25 youtube videos showcasing their shit.

That certainly seems to be the case for all the moderators on LC, so it should work for anyone else reputable enough in the laser-verse.

You have to consider that most people simply don't know very much about lasers, and as such are very easily impressed by something like some run-of-the-mill beam shots, a match light, and maybe a balloon pop for variety. Something like that would easily sell a Spyder II or a Pulsar, or an Elite series for a lot of people.

exactly. thats why its such a great marketing technique, they are always looking to sell to the newbies, and one timers, not the extreme hardcore laserers like us.

A TEC cooled 400mw waterproof laser sounds pretty great to me. Assuming it isn't underspec/mode hopping/MASSIVELY overpriced.

That's a lot to hope for, given the circumstances of its birth.

This gives me an idea. I'll have to set up a referral system, but I'd pay 10% commission on any sales generated by anyone referring people to Blaze. So you go buy a 1W IR off me and post vids all over youtube, if it makes me money i'll give you money or a free laser.

Sorry I can't afford to be as generous as WL, just giving out stuff :p

Yea, that's why the discutions on LC are at a lower knowledge and intelligence level ::)
Damn Blue, that sounds awesome, I wish I had at least 1 vid with 100.000+ views , unfortunately my whole youtube channel only has 20.000 video views :'(

i wonder what other colors itll come out in.

i mean besides the fact that WL sucks and is overpriced, the spyder II series was really cool when it first came out. It came in blue, 20-30mw, red, 250-300mw, and green, 200-300mw. I remember my desktop used to be the pictures of those three that i got off the site, and they were rotating every 5 seconds, so the beam would be green, then it would meld into red or blue, etc.

then i got banned from the LC and joined here. and took my desktop down.

Come on people don't blame WL. They really do some good work.
They have different desings. Spyder II and Hercules are much different looking lasers.
It is like comparing a big american muscle car and a japanese turbo charged car.
WL has lasers which have better look. And they are not as bad as you think.
There is no perfect laser (I haven't come across with except my friends fusion :) )
I used ebay lasers, dragonlasers, wickedlasers, novalasers and trust me all have some defects. Xaryxl knows what I am talking about.
A laser that can perform superb in your hands can perform much different in somewhere around the world. The temperatures, humidity everthing have effect on that. Even dust and use of it.
I can bet with anyone that you cannot have 100% no problem lasers from any company. It is against the nature of DPPS lasers :)
Buy from any company you like but don't talk bias againts WL.
That's my opinion and I am not a WL fan or somthing else.
Regards,
