SF501B 520nm 200-300mw from Sci-Fi lasers :) - just love that green color :)

Was so tempted by a higher wattage ones but for starters this will suffice.

This is to get back into the hobby after being screwed over by Wicked Lasers years ago (as some people will now from my introduction).

Nice to be here, hoping to stay for a long time and enjoy the fun :)

Now for the grueling wait......

You will probably be satisfied with that wattage, even my 82mW 520nm has an easily visible beam. Of course if you also want something that will burn real good then you will want a more powerful blue or violet laser.

As Pi R said, 200-300mW of 520nm will be more than satisfying visually, hell my 100mW 532nm is still amazing to look at.

Anyway enjoy the 200mW's of 520nm wish i had one on its way too :)

I will definitely enjoy it when it comes.

On a side note, there is one thing I haven't really researched before getting over-excited and pulling the trigger.

That is the UK's legal stance on the matter - has anyone got shipped any higher wattage lasers to UK recently? I do know the gov's stance on "laser pointers" (i.e. anything above > 1mw is a no no), but I wasn't able to find anything pointing me to a potentially seized package by customs.

If anyone had ordered delivered by Sci-Fi lasers to uk recently, I'd appreciate any information. :)

Kind regards

Didn't know about it before, no.

Just looking through it now :)

Still the order is made, would really be nice to find out if I had just thrown away £110 :)

Kind regards

I doubt if you will have any problem, we have quite a few U.K. members, I don't remember hearing about problems with customs there, but it's a good idea to learn to build your own, if you just buy parts it's unlikely you will have a problem with customs.

You can also buy from member Grix in Norway, I don't know if mail from there goes through customs or not, at least the shipping should be quick.

You are in luck. UK is a country that is very easy to ship high powered lasers to buyers :)

I also ordered the same laser from Sci-Fi. My safety glasses and batteries are ready. I just can't wait to get it in my hands  I'm also planning in getting a +1W green laser later this year or next year and oh boy how bright must the +1W green laser be if even the one I own right now (~30mW 532nm pen) is really bright at night and even in daytime it's possible to see the beam from a parallel angle :p

^Outside in midday, you'd still have a hard time seeing the beam of 1W of 532nm. While possible, it'd be very faint :yh:

Thanks for the replies guys, have to say can't wait now!! :)

As far as the idea of building my own goes, it's always intrigued me, but between 2 jobs, 2 little girls and a busy schedule, there will be very limited time I'll probably devote to this handiwork :)

Although I might look into the subject into the future.... - any recommendations about the sites (for parts) to have a look around?

On a side note, just reading through the forum I have noticed some really powerfull custom stuff that people make here (e.g. the copper Dominator!!! - ) Amazing work, really.

Just wondering about the output though, if it's 3.4 w how come the most powerfull arcane from sci-fi lasers (which is aluminium based) is 7W? Is that really serious? I know it's violet....but 7 watts??? :O

The 6 - 7W diode is a new diode that hasn't been around long, yes it's real, I don't recommend getting one though until you are very experienced with lasers. I am waiting to hear about someone accidently burning their house or apartment building down with one of these, I wouldn't want to have to explain to police/fire/insurance investigators how it happened.

I have a 445nm that is about 3W+ and it will instantly burn anything even if it's white. Even my 1913mW 450nm can set paper on fire.

The 6 - 7W NUBM44 diode isn't violet, it's 450nm blue, 445/450nm often show on camera as violet but they aren't although some 445nm can look a little violet but 405nm is what we call violet. The most powerful 405nm at the present time is a little under 1W.
