Just to make sure if somebody is really in to this theme and knows a few basics about Lasers.
Shortly i had a chat with a guy i saw playing around with his Laser at a Concert. He owns a 1W / 445nm Laser and i found out he knows less then nothing about it.

I think it would look good to outsiders if they see LPF Sellers are caring about safety. ( even more )

There was an idea floated around by members before about a short, basic, quiz for registering to LPF.

Unfortunately it never really got any traction, I think because it would slow down/decrease the growth of LPF...

A better approach might be to require a password to enter the B/S/T section, and to obtain the password require a person to fill out a basic quiz on safety.

^ Agree with Infinite.

I came to LPF to learn, and before I got here, I knew *nothing* about laser safety. That's why I signed up - so I could be more safe and still have lots of fun with lasers. Requiring people to know about laser safety before they join is a tad ridiculous.

I know what you were talking about, I was just referring to the idea of needing a quiz to be passed in order to sign up. But, I think yours and IE's ideas are essentially the same.

Might want to clear up what you were talking about than...

To some people it might seem like you were talking about promoting laser safety... no?

Maybe you were talking about a legal disclaimer maybe, something in fine print? added to all sales threads?

If you're instead asking for all sellers on lpf to individually educate/interrogate potential buyers to decide whether they are responsible enough to have the lasers with a questionnaire.... that will never happen:undecided:

This method would also mean that outside of seller/buyer no one actually sees the precaution being taken.

If the general goal is to put more emphasis on how safety conscious lpf is... that's also probably not happening.

@Mohrenberg - Of course you would:na:

Yes, it's all about safety ! Everyone can visit LPF. Even to sign in, no problem. But just when it comes to buying a Laser you have to show that you know what you are going to buy. No need to be a Professor, just a few basics. How this can be done, it's at the Moderators.

I would really like to see a basic knowledge/safety test required to enter B/S/T section.
All members could always sell to anyone on ebay.
If your going come here to buy here we should at least attempt to weed out morons with no patience.

We really should do something... last thing we need is one of our custom lasers being implicated in a strike on aircraft.

^ Exactly.

Yea we can't stop ebay or chinese sales but we can try to keep LPFs name clean & LPF members a little safer.
LPF gets a lot views. Some people may be lured over here by cool youtube videos by our members or coverage elsewhere http://laserpointerforums.com/f44/some-more-media-coverage-one-our-members-65226.html. Others by horrible unsafe videos bearing "As seen on Laser Pointer Forums" http://laserpointerforums.com/f53/moron-points-200mw-into-kids-eyes-o-youtube-65190.html#post936182.
However they get here who can blame them for being interested after see some of the amazing custom builds people have done here.
