Interesting, although in the last shots it looks like the beam is originating inside the cabin...

I'm surprised they caught the guy... but they did say it wasn't the first time.

Idiocy when it comes to lasers, apparently knows no borders.

Yeah in the laat shots, either the perps laser has the best divergance EVER, or that laser was in the cockpit

it seems that there are 2 different clips as they sky is different color so I'm saying they were taken at different times. The second may have been a test to gauge a pilots ability to see when confronted with a laser.

Yeah, the last scene is definitely a flight simulator.

I don't know the Russian language so it's difficult determine what shots were used in these edited TV news report videos.

The first video included some flight simulator shots: probably included to help explain the effects of laser light in the cockpit. It's funky, looking like a pointer was held just outside the simulator.

In the first video the laser seems to originate from the ground floor of an apartment building or condo. In the second video there is a beam coming from an upper story window.

There could have been a time lag of hours to days between the first video and the second... like maybe cops were sent out at night to get the ground level shots after they got reports of the aircraft incident.

Its definitely footage from different clips put together. Kind of dishonest they would throw those other clips in their with no warning.

The first part is real obviously. Very stupid. I have never seen the view of this from a cockpit so that was quite interesting. I can see why it is an issue of being distracting at the very least.

Here is another laser illumination of an aircraft. This one happened in Tucson, Arizona earlier this month.

The video of the green laser is not as sharp as the Russian video but it's good enough to let you know what's happening. The pilot was interviewed. He understands the issues involved and explained that even a laser beam diverged to a few feet across can screw up a pilot's eyesight.

^^^Video link is dead.

I do speak russian, there was nothing interesting in the OP videos that was said imo. Same crap we've heard a dozen times in english like "authorities are considering criminal penalties for such antics". They did say the guy they caught wasn't doing this for the first time.

I definitely see what Ped said about beam divergence. Doesn't add up. The beam is going to be very wide into the cockpit from that distance.

American TV does this all the time.

Read the thread bro, its obviously a flight simulator.

Thanks for letting me know that link went down.

At least one other news video on this story is also down. It's looking like more than one aircraft was hit that evening in Tucson and there may be more than one suspect address involved.

Anyway, this "raw" police video begins with the same color footage I saw in #8. Look at how diverged that green beam is and how it still creates a flash at the helicopter. The video switches from visible light to night vision as the copter crew spot the address. This is not an intact "raw" video... some video was cut from the middle as the chopper slowly circles around the backside of the address.

I've been watching too many night vision clips from Afghanistan. I half expected this one to end with an explosion from a Hellfire.

Why are people so damn stupid?!

This is getting really out of hand.

EDIT: it would have been interesting to see him shine the laser when the chopper was on infrared. Im sure that laser leaks a lot of IR.

I know 2 people that want to buy my 1.1W 445nm to blind people. :cryyy: Its screwed up. Show them something cool, and elite, and they want to use it for negative purposes.

I don't get it either.

Unfortunately while showing others my lasers I have heard on more than 1 occasion "point it at those people" or "point it in that window". Which is why no one else gets to use them. :can: Its amazing people dont weigh the pros and cons of an action before doing something

Pros: Might seem kind of funny to make a colored dot appear in a place people do not expect it. - Not all that funny even

Cons: Might permanently injury someone, might result in a lawsuit, might result in jail time, might cause and accident etc

How can anyone think about that and go "sounds good enough to me" *shines laser idiotically
