Yep my bad, I saw the fins and didnt even think its swimming in a beautiful ocean lol, at least tell me that tortoise have fins:eek:

No the tortoise have something resembling feet and they live on land, they have larger domed shape shells while the turtles have more streamlined and lighter weight shells for traveling through the water. Many people don't know the difference and think tortoises are turtles.

Watch your toes, thread derailed!! :D :D

@Hap, I still remember the story about your Dad, Penguins and I believe the French language, correct?

@ FUBeaches & InfinitusEquitas what was the occasion/place to eat those 2 critters or where? A restaurant?

A bit of info, I find a lot of dead turtles(snapping, box and painted) on the ties between the rails of railroad tracks because they love to lay their eggs in the loose grit near the ballast rocks. I think they then get over the first rail but can't make it past the second rail. Therefore they are trapped between the rails and then starve to death :(

Yes LC a restaurant.... In Asia.....or you have to catch one....the only turtle that are legal to eat are Snapping Turtle.....those things are easily aggro...they bite Hard....they bit of my fishing line and swim off with the hook...Tough little buggers....Or take a trip down under and you can even eat Roos, Snake, Spider, Larvae, Flat heads, buffalos and even Crocodiles(Giant, short snout, big Jaw,supper aggressive salt water alligators. heck you can even found them on the beach and in parks after a heavy rain). but there's one catch.... either pays Wrangler to catch the crocodile or catch one yourself....

Catch?!? I will catch a ball, I will catch a fish, I will catch a snake, I will catch a spider but a large Crocodile, I'll pass.
Are you able to have a long gun there down under like a rifle or shotgun to hunt with? If so, if they taste good and it is legal, I would harvest one and eat it.

This was almost 20 years ago now, but it's pretty straight forward... grandpa went fishing, caught a tortoise, made a stew/soup out of it.

He just turned 89 yesterday :p

Nice!! Basic is best most of the time.

Please wish your grandpa Happy Birthday from me. Pass on a handshake and smile for me!! :)
I have caught about 10 snapping turtles fishing. One was very large. I take a picture of them and let them go.

Story; I was fishing in a murky pond for bullheads. Pulled the stringer in to put one on and the bullheads stomachs were ripped open. I tossed the stringer back in the water but then pulled it towards shore about a foot. A moment later the stringer started to slowly move out in the water. I slowly pulled the stringer in and there were two medium sized snappers snacking on the bullheads bellies!!

LC you can have a riffle to hunt Roos and Croc here down under...but most of us prefer to wrestle the crocodiles before finish them off with a knife through their snout...you actually get money for getting rid of them, sell their skin and their meet... those thing taste like chicken by the way and their meat are tender...

Lol, talk about thread derailment...

Anyway, it's probably someone who:

1) Didn't get a free laser

or

2) Were told to do some damn research

Even if it did hurt the forums, do we really want people who have to have a website tell them what's good and what's not here anyway?

hmmm might be one of those infamous troll/scammer/Spammer around these part.....

Doubt it's a scammer, if anything writing that would decrease the amount of fresh prey coming to the forums. A spammer probably wouldn't take the time to write it, so it's probably either a troll or someone who had a serious case of the butt-hurt.

I guess I did derail this thread a bit. I see that "claim" now and can laugh but I dont know what I would of thought if I saw it before roaming this forum. Most of the time I will read and follow before I come to my own conclusion but have been caught up and listened with out doing my own homework. Who knows how many good people this forum could of lost because of it. I'm also curious if someone here can put an avatar to this claim. Who's the first who can find this "butt hurt" lol.......Oh IE. good for your grandpa must be healthy living and lots of turtle!

You're probably right on the money, H2Oxide. Anyways, I've never heard of or seen that site before, doubt many other people have. As far as we should be concerned, it's practically invisible.
