I agree completely.

Shame about your girlfriend ( WOW $8,000 ) that could have been good laser money, should've just left her in there.  ;D

Diachi

;D Believe me, thought about it! ;D I only payed $2,000 and the rest she's making payments. Thanks to good o' bail bond companies! ;D But I didn't let that stop me from buying my lasers! (although it did really slow it down) ;D

Re: Retard Police officer shines 30mW laser in my

I'm not in the USA, but if this would have happened in the Netherlands I'd definitely recommend reporting it as a crime. Cops with such bad judgment are simply unfit to perform even the most basic tasks being a police officer involves.

The fact that you are breaking the law yourself by illegally operating a class IIIb laser outside is beside the point. That NEVER gives him the right to give you "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" treatment, the fact that he ASSUMES that the device is harmless makes it even worse. What if you kicked that man instead of pointing your laser on/next to him? Would that give the cop the right to kick the crap out of you as well? Of course not. It was a very bad call from the guy and proves he's unfit as a police officer as far as I'm concerned.

Bear in mind that I do not know how the US legal system works, but here in NL the fact that you illegally operated/imported a laser would be dealt with separately, and would not block the crime report against the cop. You'll have to decide yourself if the risk of being prosecuted yourself is worth it.

Sidenote: pretty disturbing to read that some people advise against reporting this as a crime just because a legal case might influence their own "laser hobby freedom".

Re: Retard Police officer shines 30mW laser in my

1) I shined the laser near the people by mistake. I was over 200-300 ft away, and It was really dark at night, they were all wearing black clothes, and I had no idea there were people. They told me that they assumed there laser hit their eye, but it was probably on the ground near them.

2) Now, the police officer got a 911 call stating that their was a laser being pointed near them, and that it was a "weapon" that may blind people. The police officer comes, takes the laser, and points in willingly into my eye, not by mistake, but knowing that it may blind people, and an un-identified "weapon".

We all make mistakes, but this police dude did it all knowing I could go blind. That's pure evil, and he should not be on the streets.

I think I have a better case. But think about it, what if I had a gun? Would he shoot me?!!!???

This entire thing sounds so stooopid.

I have trouble believing your account. You say you 'accidentally' grazed someone ~100 yards away and they called the police (??). More likely you were closer and not accidentally harassing them. WTF were you thinking anyway - if I take out a >5mW laser at night I make damn sure no one is going to be on the receiving end of the beam!! Common sense.

The officer was dumb, but as others have pointed out he likely assumed it was a < 5mW pointer - the only kind legal.

I would NOT attempt to pursue this. You're 'in the wrong' and can only damage this hobby for the rest of us.

I guess my question is what did you say to the officer? We've heard your testimony about how brutal this guy was but you know there's always two sides to the story. We only have your side. I suspect there is more to this than has been revealed.

Now I'm not defending this officer but when you deal with police you have to remember that everything they do, practically everyone they have to deal with represents scum (perpetrators) or citizens who are not happy to see them (traffic). Beat cops get the raw end of law enforcement. That is why you always respect the badge even if you do not respect the officer. They tend to have a poor outlook on the people they deal with because very few of their encounters are truly good citizens. To Serve and Protect is a misnomer. No police officer ever prevented a crime because the 7th, 8th and 14th amendment do not allow someone to be arrested before they commit a crime so the duty of a police officer is to clean up the mess. That is what they see day in and day out, the worst of society. Keep this is mind. You may not like it but it is the fact.

I don't know what it's like in the Netherlands but when I lived in Germany, street justice was regularly administered by the Polizei, but that was only if they actually caught you doing the crime.

I did not talk back or anything. My eye was seeing black dots for the first 5 mins he was talking to me anyways, I was half blind the whole convo. But anyways no I did not swear at him, I just kept agreeing with whatever he said, trying to be as nice as I could.

He shined the laser in my eye without even asking my name or anything. Just came up, asked for the laser, and than shined it in my eye.

Hold on you said you could not see the 'target' and did not know he/she was there, which shows that you dont actually know if you got it in their eyes or not, so you just contradicted yourself.

No, the people who dialed 911 were not sure if it hit their eye or was just near them on the ground.

Did you read the very first post I made?

Ya they assumed it hit their eye and also said it was on the ground near them. I also think it was on the ground near them, I doubt it hit their eye.

lol, I see your point, but what we all need to understand is that your point is ilrelevent.  No, he wouldn't shoot you if you had a gun, as guns and lasers can't really be compared (a physical projectile that pierces the flesh and KILLS, would blow your HEAD OFF if shot in your eye vs blind you or tiny sting on the skin).  But then I don't think you would accedently shoot a gun near someone in public either.  It's ok, when I was 13 years old I learned what not to do with lasers too.  Just don't do it again.  ;)

Don't bother fighting the police on this one, you will NOT win.  They deal with SERIOUS (yes, your sight is not serious) issues and invest millions of dollars for the sake of their reputation and to make sure the bad guys loose (everybody who apose "the law").  It would turn against you so fast you wouldn't know what hit you.  Do you have millions of dollars to fight in cort?  If so, you might get the chance to make a point, but I doubt "justice" will ever be made with this case.  Besides, the officer probably DIDN'T KNOW what he was doing, if you told him it was high powered and would blind you, he probably would have taken it more seriously, thus your punishment would have too.  He probably wanted to make a quick point, then go on about his business toward more serious stuff.

;D Another reason why I continued with my purchase is that I knew I could do this if I NEEDED to (seel it for 1/2 price etc.)  But I have a very good job making DECENT money.  I had planned to buy the rpls before the incident, and I found that I still could a few months after, so I still did.  :D
