Question recomendations for a 200mw diode driver

I am a complete n00b obsessed with lasers and new to this website.
In order to keep it short, i have bought the aixis laser housing and the 200mw laser diode recommended from kipkay (). As i have learned, the minimag flashlight thing is a complete no-no. my question is, what is the most recommended driver for my laser to burn brightest and last the longest? Schematics and explanations are requested because i don't understand most of them
thanks again

Even cheaper, search "homemade laser diode driver"

My recommendation is the driver from our own member rkcstr... His V3 microdrive is an awesome little driver that can take the juice.
Micro-Drive V3 adjustable driver (assembled) - $13.00 : rkcstr.com, Micro-Drive and laser diode electronics
There's also the drlava drive, it's even smaller and convenient, but much more expensive.

I bought a few rkcstr V2 drives kits (because I love to build stuff myself, and I'm a cheap son of a b...)

P.S.: Oh, and you didn't mention about your diode, is it bluray or a red one?

Default Re: recomendations for a 200mw diode driver

I have built several drivers using RadioShack parts.
They work alright but;
No1. They are very inefficient
No2. They generate a lot of heat
No3. Because of #1 #2, batteries do not last long.
No4. They are impossible to fit in almost any host, unless
you plan on using a 2 D cell flashlight.
No5. RadioShack carries very little components anymore.
At least all the ones near me, do not carry 100 Ohm pots.
their 1K pots can't handle more then 200mA, etc.
finding what you need is a PITA, but like you stated, when you build the whole thing from the ground up and it fires up, it's a great feeling
Expect to not have that feeling a lot when you first start.
You will ruin a few diodes before you get the hang of it.
