I'll definitely wait for reviews before getting this. If it actually delivers it would be an excellent deal for sure, but you never know with these things.

Running of built-in cells might be a good thing though, at least as far as the manufacturer actually testing it with real-world cells in stead of a lab power supply.

Oops I meant "Does anybody want to buy one of these and do a review?" If somehow I get some extra money that I don't dump on the 16x DIode group buy, the blu-ray group buy, or the Phaser diode group buy I might pick one of these up, and I'll send it to someone with a meter to test it for me.

Anyone else find it odd we're moving away from the pen-style modules? to me a portable laser always has a pen end on it (even the high-end military IR units have an end that looks like a pen) Anyone else think this is a little odd?

IMHO, not really, larger battery, better sustained output.

I think what Ashton maybe getting at, is with these smaller lasers there seems to be not be much room for a better heatsink and quality driverboards. So hence the keyring type lasers are being made for just sheer profit....

bingo, TL! Quantity not quality for the almighty dollar! (or pound in your case) smaller = crappier when it comes to most electronics.

Leaving the pen-size seems only logical to me, really. The pen form factor is practical to handle, and works well for the typical 5 mW laser.

When you're going to tens of mW green, these things have a pump diode that burns 0.25 or 0.5 watts, cooling that becomes more difficult. Also, the batteries have to supply in the order of 0.3 amps in the typical higher-powered greens, which is more than your average AAA alkaline can supply at a decent voltage.

Personally, i'd love to see more 'beefy' handheld lasers on the market - not that this one looks that good in that respect.
