RE: lava drive V4

Hi to all, first off the lava drives directions say to "scrape" of the last shown resister to achieve the next current window.

I think you have to still use the solder jumpers to achieve this correct me if I'm wrong.

If this is true just a suggestion don't scrap cause the pad will potentionaly come with it.

Any useful hints on this subject will earn rep points. Have a good day. :)

Re: lava drive V4

I use a hot soldering iron to Scrape it off. This way it melts the connection to the pad and removes the resistor at the same time. Hasn't failed me yet. Also another tip when using this driver. If you don't have a test load and you are working with a PHR diode. Start off in the first current range. Turn the pot until you are at the low end of the current. THEN remove the little resistor and slowly adjust the pot to a safe current level. If you hold the diode/module while you adjust the current you will be able to feel the diode/module heat as it gets to higher currents. You should stop at the point where the module begins to feel hot and back it up to where it is warm but not hot. If you have an LPM you can also check to see if it is at a documented safe output level. Diodes and drivers vary so keep that in mind.

Re: lava drive V4

You could also use a set of 4 diodes used in the LM317 DIY driver and a 1 ohm resistor as a test load, just a handy tip to save you a few dollars. Of course it won't be exact to every ma but it is normally within 4-5 :)

As for scraping of the resistor I also just use a hot solder iron with a tinned tip to quickly melt the solder around the resister and just give it a quick pull out... Or you could ask someone to give you a hand and just pull it off with a knife or pair of tweezers while you heat the area.
